Nonresident Fathers and Children
Children often lose contact with their biological fathers after their parents separate and form new families. Using detailed longitudinal data on family transitions made by mothers and fathers after separation, the authors examine whether and how changes in the family trajectories of both biological parents affect frequency of contact that nonresident fathers maintain with their children. The Relationship Between Racism and Racial Identity for White Americans
This investigation examined how racial identity profiles, using J. E. Helms's (1996) profile scoring procedure, were related to racist attitudes. One finding showed that participants with an undifferentiated or flat profile scored significantly higher in racist attitudes than participants with other racial identity profiles. The Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development is a prospective longitudinal survey of 411 South London males from age 8 to age 46. Delinquency rates were higher among 75 boys who were living in permanently disrupted families on their fifteenth birthday, compared to boys living in intact families.
