Petrographic characterization of historic mortar as a tool in archaeologic study: Examples from two medieval castles of Aosta Valley, Northwestern Italy
SEM-EDS characterization of historic mortar as a tool in archaeometric study: An updated analytical protocol tested on the Roman theatre of Aosta (NW Italy)
A Petrographic Study of the Anthropomorphic Stelae from the Megalithic Area of Saint‐Martin‐De‐Corléans ( A osta, N orthern I taly)
The Megalithic Area of Saint‐Martin‐de‐Corléans ( A osta, northern I taly) consists of anthropomorphic stelae dated to the Copper Age and the beginning of the Early Bronze Age. They were carved in different lithologies of varying provenance according to two successive artistic styles, ‘ancient’ and ‘evolved’. A minero‐chemical and a petrographic investigation were carried out on 47 stelae and on reference samples collected from eight different ou…
Scientific Analysis of Roman Glass From Augusta Praetoria
Fifty‐five fragments of Roman glass from Augusta Praetoria (Aosta, Italy) were analysed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy determining 15 elements (Si, Na, Ca, Al, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ti, Sr, Ba, Cr, Ni, Cu, Co and Pb) on dissolved samples; in addition, potassium was determined by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. The analytical results indicate that all the fragments, with one exception, are silica‐soda‐lime glasses; (he exc…
Roman Pottery From Augusta Praetoria (Aosta, Italy): A Provenance Study
Forty‐five sherds of Roman pottery, 21 terrae sigillutae and 24 common wares excavated in Augusta Praeroria, were analysed for 12 elements by atomic absorption and emission spectroscopy. Hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis, principal component analysis, and non‐linear mapping were performed on the analytical data in order to classify the objects in groups which could account for different provenances; soft independent modelling of class a…
