  • Moral injury in treatment-seeking police officers: A qualitative study

    Bernardette C E M Blom, F Jackie June Ter Heide et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2025

This study is the first to explore high stakes PMIEs and moral injury in trauma-exposed, help-seeking police officers. Findings show that moral injury seems a relevant clinical concept in policing. PMIEs may change their fundamental self-perception and lead to deep feelings of guilt and shame. Directions for future research include examining police officers' treatment needs and perspectives on "moral recovery." (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2026 …

  • Response of patients with complex forms of PTSD to highly intensive trauma treatment: A clinical cohort study

Mayaris Zepeda Méndez, Mirjam J Nijdam et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2024

Patients with both forms of PTSD complexity can benefit even from a very brief intensive treatment program, which extends previous studies. The diagnoses of PTSD + DS and CPTSD seem helpful to assess the initial severity of the symptoms, but do not imply contra-indications to benefit from intensive treatment. Highly intensive treatment programs are promising interventions to effectively treat complex forms of PTSD and should be studied further in…

  • Psychometric evaluation of the Dutch International Trauma Questionnaire for the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases posttraumatic stress disorder and complex posttraumatic st…

    Jorinde Gerrmann, M A Boeschoten et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2023

Internal consistency and convergent validity for the ITQ-12 and ITQ-28 were supported. The factorial validity was good for the ITQ-12 and acceptable for the ITQ-28. The discrepancy in CPTSD rates between the ITQ-12 and ITQ-28 calls for further testing of scoring methods against diagnostic clinical interviews for CPTSD. • Initial development of perpetrator confrontation using deepfake technology in victims with sexual violence-related PTSD and moral injury

Open Access•Agnes Van Minnen, F Jackie June Ter Heide et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Victim-perpetrator confrontation using deepfake technology is a promising intervention to influence moral injury-related symptoms in victims of sexual violence. Deepfake technology may also show promise in simulating other interactions between persons involved in morally injurious events

  • Moral Injury in Trauma-Exposed, Treatment-Seeking Police Officers and Military Veterans: Latent Class Analysis

Open Access•Beijka Mensink, Annette van Schagen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Exposure to morally injurious events may have a severe, prolonged negative impact on psychosocial functioning, known as moral injury (MI). Research into the prevalence of MI has mostly focused on event exposure rather than on psychosocial impact. Also, the relationship between MI and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) remains a matter of interest. The aim of this study was to identify MI and PTSD symptom profiles among trauma-exposed, treatmen…

  • Development of an online supportive treatment module for moral injury in military veterans and police officers

Open Access•F Jackie June Ter Heide, Mariëlle L de Goede et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Using input from literature, patient representatives and experts, we developed an online treatment module for moral injury in military veterans and police officers, to be used in conjunction with face-to-face therapy. Acceptability and feasibility will be further examined in a future pilot study

  • Treatment response and treatment response predictors of a multidisciplinary day clinic for police officers with PTSD

Saara Martinmäki, Niels Van Der Aa et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2021

Intensifying treatment for police officers with PTSD who do not respond to previous trauma-focused treatment appears beneficial for a substantial number of patients. However, eligibility for a recognition procedure may negatively impact treatment response. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Posttraumatic world assumptions among treatment-seeking refugees

Open Access•F Jackie June Ter Heide, Marieke Sleijpen et al.•ARTICLE•Transcultural Psychiatry•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 34

The clinical relevance of negative changes in cognitions about oneself, others, and the world is reflected in the diagnostic criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the DSM-5 and complex posttraumatic stress disorder in the ICD-11. Although such changes in cognition have been posited to be especially relevant for traumatised refugees, few studies have examined this in refugee populations. The present study used a cross-sectional desi…

  • Female Asylum‐Seekers in the Netherlands: An Empirical Study

    Open Access•Jos W Van Wetten, Catrien C J H Bijleveld et al.•ARTICLE•International Migration•2001•Cited by: 2

This article presents the findings from a study into the chances for refugee status, or a temporary residence permit, for three cohorts of male and female asylum‐seekers to the Netherlands. The study investigated whether men and women with similar backgrounds in terms of country of origin, social and demographic characteristics have a similar likelihood of obtaining permission to stay in the Netherlands. The quantitative findings are corroborated…
