  • The impact of childhood maltreatment on paternal antenatal bonding

Open Access•Eleonora Bevacqua, Leonardo Fazio et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2025

The findings suggest that emotional neglect and abuse during childhood may hinder expectant fathers' emotional bonding with their unborn child by making them more vulnerable to antenatal depression. Emotional neglect, in particular, emerged as a significant risk factor. These results emphasise the importance of screening expectant fathers for early adversity and depressive symptoms, in order to support paternal engagement and infant well-being

  • Psychological flexibility mediates the long-term impact of adverse interpersonal experiences in childhood and adolescence

Open Access•Leonardo Fazio, Cristina Semeraro et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2025

The present study evaluates the impact of exposure to interpersonal adverse events on different aspects of quality of life and psychological symptomatology. The results suggest that psychological flexibility mediates the long-term repercussions of interpersonal adversity. As psychological flexibility is a modifiable skill, interventions aimed at enhancing it in individuals with early exposure to adverse interpersonal events, such as traumatic chi…

  • Exploring the predictive value of structural covariance networks for the diagnosis of schizophrenia

Open Access•Clara Vetter, Clara S Vetter et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

These patterns of results show that different SCN computation approaches capture different aspects of the disease. While REF-SCNs contain valuable information for discriminating schizophrenia from healthy control individuals, KLS-SCNs may capture more nuanced symptom-level characteristics similar to those captured by PCA of regional GMV

  • Understanding the relationship between childhood emotional abuse and neglect and psychological distress in pregnant women

Open Access•Maria Rita Infurna, Leonardo Fazio et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2024

The transition to motherhood is a sensitive period, particularly for women who have experienced abuse and neglect during childhood. These experiences may negatively impact a woman's disposition to emotionally and behaviorally engage in the formation of a bond with their unborn baby. These results may have important prevention and clinical implications and thus warrant further exploration

  • The heterogeneity of attenuated and brief limited psychotic symptoms

Open Access•Christian Theisen, Marlene Rosen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Psychosis-risk patients report a wide range of different contents of APS/BIPS, underlining the psychopathological heterogeneity of this group but also revealing a potential core set of contents. Compared to earlier reports on North-American samples, our maximum prevalence rates of contents were considerably lower; this likely being related to a stricter rating of APS/BIPS and cultural influences, in particular, higher schizotypy reported in North…

  • Pre-surgery supportive and goal-oriented strategies are associated with lower post-surgery perceived distress in women diagnosed with breast cancer

Open Access•Paolo Taurisano, Chiara Abbatantuono et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2022

The present investigation revealed that the pre-surgery adoption of supportive and goal-oriented strategies led to postoperative distress reduction among breast cancer patients. These findings highlight the importance of timely psychosocial screening and proactive interventions in order to improve patients' recovery and prognosis

  • A combination of maternal and paternal features discriminates between children with secure and insecure attachment style

Open Access•Linda A Antonucci, Pasquale Musso et al.•ARTICLE•Psicologia•2022•Cited by: 1

Child-caregiver attachment security has been associated with positive developmental outcomes. However, many aspects related to the parenting environment, besides attachment organization, should be considered in the prediction of offspring's attachment. We aimed at building an ecological classification model of child attachment based on many variables related to the individual and dyadic features of both parents. Having recruited 150 families, we …

  • Machine learning-based ability to classify psychosis and early stages of disease through parenting and attachment-related variables is associated with social cognition

    Open Access•Linda A Antonucci, Alessandra Raio et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2021

Our results suggest that parenting and attachment-related variables bear significant classification power when applied to both PSY and its early stages and are associated with variability in emotion processing. These variables could therefore be useful in psychosis early recognition programs aimed at softening the psychosis-associated disability

  • Modeling Social Sensory Processing During Social Computerized Cognitive Training for Psychosis Spectrum

    Open Access•Lana Kambeitz‐Ilankovic, Lana Kambeitz-Ilankovic et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Background: Greater impairments in early sensory processing predict response to auditory computerized cognitive training (CCT) in patients with recent-onset psychosis (ROP). Little is known about neuroimaging predictors of response to social CCT, an experimental treatment that was recently shown to induce cognitive improvements in patients with psychosis. Here, we investigated whether ROP patients show interindividual differences in sensory proce…

  • Basic Symptoms Are Associated With Age in Patients With a Clinical High-Risk State for Psychosis

Open Access•Helene Walger, Linda A Antonucci et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

In community studies, both attenuated psychotic symptoms (APS) and basic symptoms (BS) were more frequent but less clinically relevant in children and adolescents compared to adults. In doing so, they displayed differential age thresholds that were around age 16 for APS, around age 18 for perceptive BS, and within the early twenties for cognitive BS. Only the age effect has previously been studied and replicated in clinical samples for APS. Thus,…
