  • Abolition of the family: The Most Infamous Feminist Proposal

    Open Access•K Weeks•ARTICLE•Feminist Theory•2023•Cited by: 13•References: 20

In the 1970s, what Marx and Engels satirised as the most 'infamous proposal of the communists', the abolition of the family, becomes the most scandalous demand of feminists. Ever since then, numerous US feminists have tried to walk it back. This article revisits 1970s feminist family abolitionism and develops an argument for its contemporary relevance

  • La renta básica desde una perspectiva feminista postrabajo

    Open Access•K Weeks•ARTICLE•Política y Sociedad•2022•References: 2

What Can Feminist Work Be?: A Conversation with WSQ Authors Kathi Weeks and Heather Berg Samantha Pinto (bio), Kathi Weeks (bio), and Heather Berg (bio) One of the calling cards of WSQ is the way it creates rich conversations within subfields of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Through its special issue format, WSQ gives us a window into intra- and interdisciplinary thinking and makes reading each issue an event in the field, a recalibrati…

Kathi Weeks Scaling-Up: A Marxist Feminist Archive This article assembles an archive for the future of Marxist feminist theory consisting of three texts: Shulamith Firestone’s iconic manifesto from 1970 The Dialectic of Sex: The Case for Feminist Revolution, Donna Haraway’s 1985 “Manifesto for Cyborgs,” and the Laboria Cuboniks collective ’s 2015 manifesto, “Xenofeminism: A Politics…

  • Anti/Postwork Feminist Politics and A Case for Basic Income

    Open Access•K Weeks•ARTICLE•tripleC Communication Capitalism…•2020

This article presents a defence of the demand for a guaranteed basic income against recent Left critiques. Drawing on a series of lessons from the 1970s-era demand for Wages for Housework, I argue in favour of a demand for a liveable and universal basic income as a coalitional, antiproductivist, antifamilial reform that can help to alleviate some of the ways that the current wage-and-family system miscounts our economic contributions and fails as…

  • Polityka feministyczna anty/postpracy a obrona dochodu podstawowego

    Open Access•K Weeks•ARTICLE•Praktyka Teoretyczna•2020•References: 2

  • Down with Love: Feminist Critique and the New Ideologies of Work

    K Weeks•ARTICLE•Women's studies quarterly•2017•Cited by: 12

This essay draws on 1970s feminist critiques of the ideologies of love and romance to develop a critique of the popular advice literature that directs employees to find love and happiness at work. The author argues that, under heteropatriarchal capitalism, the ideology of romantic love is being harnessed not only to continue to assign domestic work to women, but to recruit all waged workers into a more intimate relationship with work

  • The VanishingDialectic: Shulamith Firestone and the Future of the Feminist 1970s

    K Weeks•ARTICLE•South Atlantic Quarterly•2015•Cited by: 9•References: 14

This essay explores the relation between the feminist present, its recent past, and its possible futures using Shulamith Firestone's The Dialectic of Sex (1970) as a point of reference. Rather than conceive 1970s feminism as either a dead relic of a superseded past or a living legacy, the analysis experiments with temporalities of feminist theory that might better account for both continuity and rupture, for our attractions and repulsions to diff…

  • The Critical Manifesto: Marx and Engels, Haraway, and Utopian Politics

    K Weeks•ARTICLE•Utopian Studies•2013

The essay focuses on the manifesto as a utopian genre and presents the category of the critical manifesto as a way to understand some of its internal differences. The analysis centers on a comparison between a traditional example of the form, Marx and Engels's The Communist Manifesto, and a critical version that rethinks both the form itself and the content of its claims, namely, Haraway's “Manifesto for Cyborgs.” Moylan's concept of the critical…

The approximal surfaces of premolars and molars of 376 adult British‐Romano skulls were examined for wear facets. The type of wear was designated as convex, concave, sigmoid, or flat, and the degree was categorised on a three‐point scale. Concave wear facets were more frequently seen in the older age groups, but the type of wear was similar on right and left sides. Taking all teeth together or as individual tooth types, concave wear was significa…
