    Open Access•Joseph A Doster, Rebecca K Mielke et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2006

This study focuses on the self-representations or cognitive self-schemas that individuals construct as a function of their play experiences. Participants ( N = 101) completed the Lifestyle Assessment Questionnaire (Elsenrath, Hettler, & Leafgren, 1989), a version of Kelly's (1955) repertory grid, and a health questionnaire. • Stability and Factor Structure of the Jackson Personality Inventory-Revised

Joseph A Doster, Susan Wilcox et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2000

The Jackson Personality Inventory-Revised comprises 15 bipolar scales and five cluster scores concerning an individual's interpersonal patterns of interaction, cognitive styles, and value orientation. Recent reviews of this revised version raise questions about test-retest stability as well as the factor structure on which cluster scores are based. 74 men and 33 women (29–63 years of age, M = 42.3) completed the inventory while participating in a…

  • Relationship of Construct Relation and Optimism

    Open Access•Travis Hinze, Joseph A Doster et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1997

Landfield and Epting (1987) theorized that low construct relation may suggest a fragmentation process within one's construct system which, in turn, will be manifest in excessive doubt and uncertainty, forms of low optimism. Present results with 81 undergraduates were consistent with this contention and indicated that individuals with low scores on construct relation also report low scores on dispositional optimism. Continued research is recommend…

  • Some Implications for Intelligence Test Construction and Administration with Children of Different Racial Groups

    Open Access•Cynthia Butler-Omololu, Joseph A Doster et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Black Psychology•1983•Cited by: 1•References: 2

An evaluation of Williams' (1972) culturally-specific intel ligence test, Black Intelligence Test of Cultural Homo geneity (BITCH-100), was made and was compared with the Anglo-oriented Vocabulary Subtest of the California Achievement Test (CAT) and with the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Revised Form (WISC-R). As predicted, Blacks generally scored higher on the BITCH-100, and Whites generally scored higher on the CAT and WISC-R. Absol…

  • Perceptions of and Preferences for Instrumental versus Expressive Therapists

    Open Access•Joseph A Doster, Jeffrey L Matloff et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1977

Two investigations used the instrumental-expressive role distinction to shape counseling behaviors and found these orientations differentially affecting subjects' preferences for therapists. Though similarity of role failed to influence choice of therapists, subjects who devalued their ability to cope with a psychological problem were attracted to the instrumental therapist, gave the therapist more responsibility for treatment outcome, and showed…

  • Need Approval, Modeling and Perception of Models' Adjustment in Behavior during an Interview

    Open Access•Jeffrey L Matloff, Joseph A Doster•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1976

Ss high and low in need for approval received role-training prior to a personal interview. Modeling of communication skills elicited greater verbal productivity than instructions alone. A mental patient model elicited less attraction, lower ratings of social competence, and more favorable disclosure by interviewees than a non-patient model. Subjects high and low in approval were unaffected by type of model
