To strengthen the chances for building back better, social work practice may mediate in these hosting arrangements to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition. This is perhaps an unexplored opportunity to step up social welfare services among people displaced by war
Social welfare services in protracted displacement
Internally displaced persons in protracted displacement may not receive optimal social work services. Governments must refrain from implicitly ‘ending’ displacement and uphold social care policies that really work for the displaced. By doing so, social work services become more sensitive and life-changing among people displaced for longer periods of time
Undocumented migrants
This Brief Note emphasizes the growing phenomenon of undocumented migration and the critical role of social work to address the challenges faced by undocumented migrants. It articulates the moral obligation of social work, as an institution, to extend assistance but argues that undocumented migrants be recognized as a special category of concern
Reaching invisible internally displaced persons
Hosted internally displaced persons become ‘invisible’, leaving them unable to immediately access incoming aid and to be assisted through social work services.
