  • Consistency Is Key When Setting a New World Record for Running 10 Marathons in 10 Days

Open Access•Nicolas Berger, Dean Cooley et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Performance and pacing were highly consistent across all 10 marathons without any substantial physiological decrements. Although overall EI did not match EE, leading to a significant ED, resulting in a 2.6 kg weight loss and decreases in bodyfat and skeletal muscle mass, this did not affect performance

  • Taking a Stand for Office-Based Workers' Mental Health

Open Access•Casey Mainsbridge, Casey Peter Mainsbridge et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2020

There is evidence that movement-based microbreaks can improve the cardiovascular health of desk-based employees, but their effect on mood states is yet to be investigated. As daily work tasks can potentially result in the loss of physical and psychological resources, the objective of this study was to measure the effect of movement microbreaks during formal work time on mood states. In a randomised-controlled pilot study with repeated measures (b…

  • Physiological Responses and Nutritional Intake during a 7-Day Treadmill Running World Record

Open Access•Nicolas Berger, Dean Cooley et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Ultra-running comprises running events longer than a marathon (>42.2 km). The prolonged duration of ultra-running leads to decrements in most or all physiological parameters and considerable energy expenditure (EE) and energy deficits. SG, 47 years, 162.5 cm, 49 kg, VO 2max 4 mL/kg/min -1 /2.37 L/min -1 , ran continuously for 7 days on a treadmill in 3 h blocks followed by 30 min breaks and slept from 1-5 a.m. Heart rate (HR) oxygen uptake (VO 2 …

  • Participant Chinese teacher and student perceptions of an international teaching practicum with Australian pre-service teachers

Aijing Jin, Annette Foley et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Intercultural…•2020•References: 6

Insights into local Chinese teacher and student views of an international teaching practicum with Australian pre-service teachers are the focus of this paper. A qualitative content analysis was undertaken on teacher and student accounts captured through individual interviews with four teachers and questionnaire survey with 186 students. The paper uncovers how teachers and students perceived what they experienced in the practice of intercultural c…

  • Is self-reporting workplace activity worthwhile? Validity and reliability of occupational sitting and physical activity questionnaire in desk-based workers

Open Access•SJ Pedersen, Scott J Pedersen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

Based on our findings we must caution occupational health and safety professionals about the use of employee self-report data to estimate workplace physical activity. While the survey produced accurate measurements for time spent sitting at work it was more difficult for employees to estimate their workplace physical activity

  • An approach for verifying biogenic greenhouse gas emissions inventories with atmospheric CO 2 concentration data

Open Access•Stephen M Ogle, Kenneth Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2015

Verifying national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories is a critical step to ensure that reported emissions data to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are accurate and representative of a country's contribution to GHG concentrations in the atmosphere. Furthermore, verifying biogenic fluxes provides a check on estimated emissions associated with managing lands for carbon sequestration and other activities, wh…

  • Assessment of the Impact of a Workplace Intervention to Reduce Prolonged Occupational Sitting Time

    Open Access•Dean Cooley, Scott Pedersen et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2014•Cited by: 1•References: 37

We aim to provide a better picture of the outcomes associated with implementing a nonpurposeful, physical activity, e-health intervention in a professional workplace. There is a need for health professionals to evaluate physical-activity-based workplace health interventions with a full range of measures. Using a social ecological model as a basis, we identify a range of subjective outcomes from 15 interviews of a cross section of participants. We…
