Swords, Settlement and Sacred Places
Archaeology South-East (UCL) has recently completed the post-excavation analysis of the results of the long-term Brisley Farm project, a series of large-scale archaeological investigations carried out in Kent since 1998. This research has revealed significant insights into the development of an ancient landscape located to the south of Ashford, spanning some three millennia. Amongst the most revealing discoveries, which included two ‘warrior buri…
Claish, Stirling
The excavation of a long timber-built structure of the early Neolithic near Callander (formerly Perthshire, now Stirling Council area) is described. The remains appear to be those of a structure measuring a maximum of c 24m by 8.5m with roughly straight sides and curved terminals, both of which have entrance gaps. About 1m in from both terminals is an arc of five posts; the interior is divided into between five and seven sections by these arcs an…

They are notable as much for the differences in burial ritual they imply as for the very narrow chronological period in which they were used. The three sites produced a total of seventeen 14 C dates, two of which are aberrant, with means of the remaining fifteen falling within a …
