  • Agricultural Landscapes

Kurt F Anschuetz, Kurt Anschuetz et al.•BOOK•The Oxford Handbook of Southwest…•2017

The discussion in this chapter is based on the premise that agricultural landscapes are the foundations of the economies, social organizations, and cultural identities of farming communities. Luann Wandsnider, Eileen L Camilli•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•1992•Cited by: 13•References: 18

Survey is one of the primary methods of data collection in archaeology today. Survey data often constitute the sole conserved record of the prehistoric use of an area and are used as the foundation for culture historical, demographic, and economic reconstructions. Given the fundamental nature of survey data in relation to other archaeological pursuits, identification of biases inherent in this type of data are important and have been the subject …

  • Lithic Raw Material Selection and Use in the Desert Basins of South-Central New Mexico

    Eileen L Camilli•ARTICLE•KIVA•1988•Cited by: 10•References: 13

Lithic materials used in the desert basins of south-central New Mexico, where raw materials are scarce, are dominated by those with reliable fracturing properties and the flexibility necessary for recycling. Close similarities in material type proportions between early and late occupations in the Mesilla Bolson are indicated by the dominance of cryptocrystalline materials in all assemblages. Flake attributes also crosscut conventionally recognize…
