Catalyzing community-led conservation governance through integrated conservation and development in coastal Mozambique
Between 2008 and 2018, the CARE-World Wildlife Fund Alliance implemented an integrated conservation and development project in the Primeiras e Segundas region of Mozambique to address intersecting challenges of poverty, food insecurity and biodiversity loss. The project aimed to catalyze the development of robust community-led governance of coastal resources and generate insights concerning the interplay between conservation and development inter…
Assessing and improving social equity in marine conservation
Social equity is increasingly recognised as a fundamental principle in marine conservation. Global conservation policies now contain commitments to equitable management and governance, yet practical guidance on how to understand and assess equity in marine conservation remains limited. In this methodological paper, we introduce our process for developing three conceptually grounded, practical and adaptable approaches for assessing equity in marin…

Conservation Narratives and Their Implications in the Coral Triangle Initiative
Conserving coral reefs, sustaining fisheries, and ensuring food security are multi-faceted challenges. Six nations in the Southeast Asia Coral Triangle have agreed to a region-wide framework to address these challenges through the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI). Based on a review of documentation, selected discussions and ongoing work in the region, we offer an initial assessment of narratives influenc…

Community collaboration and climate change research in the Canadian Arctic
Research on climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation, particularly projects aiming to contribute to practical adaptation initiatives, requires active involvement and collaboration with community members and local, regional and national organizations that use this research for policy-making. Arctic communities are already experiencing and adapting to environmental and socio-cultural changes, and researchers have a practical and ethical…
