    A study of the codes of conduct of high-school seniors in defying or yielding to parental authority in choosing an occupation was conducted in Japan, the Philippines, and the United States. Respondents in all three cultures allow greater freedom from parental control for young men than young women. This double standard is accepted by both sexes. The prestige ranks given were similar to those found in other studies. Their differences in the matter of social importance werer small.
