CVD mortality among the younger age groups increased as well. These data are congruent with adverse national trends supporting their generalizability. These adverse trends underscore the urgent need for CVD prevention and treatment, as well as continued surveillance to assess progress at the state and …

  • Barriers to Improving Primary Care of Depression

    Open Access•Robin R Whitebird, Leif I Solberg et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2013•Cited by: 3•References: 41

Using clinical trials, researchers have demonstrated effective methods for treating depression in primary care, but improvements based on these trials are not being implemented. This might be because these improvements require more systematic organizational changes than can be made by individual physicians. We interviewed 82 physicians and administrative leaders of 41 medical groups to learn what is preventing those organizational changes. The id…

Using data ( n = 60,775 women) from the Women's Health Initiative Clinical Trial (WHI CT)—a national study of postmenopausal women aged 50–79 years—we analyzed cross‐sectional associations between the availability of different types of food outlets in the 1.5 miles surrounding a woman's residence, census tract neighborhood socioeconomic status (NSES), BMI, and blood pressure (BP). We simultaneously modeled NSES and food outlets using linear and l…

Methods. We assessed women aged 65 to 81 years (n = 7479) who were free of dementia and took part in the Women's Health Initiative Memory Study. Linear mixed models examined the cross-secti…

  • The Long and Winding Roads (Reflections on Beyond the Fragments)

    Open Access•Karen L Margolis, Karen Margolis•ARTICLE•Feminist Review•1980•Cited by: 2

I wrote this article as an initial response to Beyond the Fragments, by Sheila Rowbotham, Lynne Segal and Hilary Wainwright; and also to Elizabeth Wilson's contribution, Beyond the Ghetto, published in Feminist Review number 4. I wanted to add my personal feelings and doubts to the debate opened by Beyond the Fragments, in the hope that it would develop further than the 'Leninism versus feminism' dichotomy posed by the left groups
