Healthcare inequity arising from unequal response to need in the older (45+ years) population of India
Given the large and growing number of older (45+ years) people in India, inequitable access to healthcare in this population would slow global progress toward universal health coverage. We used a 2017-18 nationally representative sample of this population (n = 53,687) to estimate healthcare inequality and inequity by economic status. We used an extensive battery of indicators in nine health domains, plus age and sex, to adjust for need. We measur…
Association between multiple chronic conditions and insufficient health literacy
Our findings suggest a need to improve health literacy in older adults suffering from chronic conditions. How Welfare Regimes Moderate the Associations Between Cognitive Aging, Education, and Occupation
Our findings indicate that the associations of cognitive functioning and its decline with individuals' cognitive reserve markers (education and occupational skill level) vary according to welfare regimes, showing the importance of contextual factors in cognitive aging processes
Healthy, Wealthy, Wise, and Happy? Assessing Age Differences in Evaluative and Emotional Well-Being Among Mature Adults from Five Low- and Middle-Income Countries
This study assesses the relationship between age and two dimensions of subjective well-being-evaluative and emotional-among mature adults from five low-and middle-income countries. We use data from the World Health Organization's Study on Global AGEing and Adult Health to contrast the associations of age with subjective well-being when controlling only for gender with the corresponding partial associations when including a richer set of covariate…
Deconstructing Gender Differences in Experienced Well-Being Among Older Adults in the Developing World
Due to declining fertility rates and increasing longevity, the world is growing older. Improving the quality of life of older adults, and not merely preventing deaths, is thus becoming an important objective of public policies. It is, therefore, urgent to understand the key dimensions of older adults' subjective well-being as well as their main drivers. Women represent a large proportion of the older population, and existing evidence suggests tha…
