Ritual as metaphor
The effectiveness of ritual is a major anthropological question. In this paper, I challenge some of the explanations anthropologists have provided to such a question and I attempt to formulate an original theorization of ritual as metaphor. This article focuses on the ethnographic case study of a festival revival observed in Celano, a hill town in Abruzzo (Italy). On 17 January, in accordance with the Catholic calendar, the community celebrates the feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot.
