  • The Śnieżka peatland as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Barbara Fiałkiewicz-Kozieł, Edyta Łokas et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 107

The subalpine, atmospherically fed Śnieżka peatland, located in the Polish part of the Sudetes, is one of the nominated candidates for the GSSP of the Anthropocene. Data from two profiles, Sn1 (2012) and Sn0 (2020), from this site are critical for distinguishing the proposed epoch, while an additional core Sn2 is presented to support main evidence. The Sn0 archive contains a wide array of critical markers such as plutonium (Pu), radiocarbon (F14C…

  • Hydrological dynamics and fire history of the last 1300 years in western Siberia reconstructed from a high-resolution, ombrotrophic peat archive

Open Access•Mariusz Lamentowicz, Michał Słowiński et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2015

Siberian peatlands provide records of past changes in the continental climate of Eurasia. We analyzed a core from Mukhrino mire in western Siberia to reconstruct environmental change in this region over the last 1300 years. The pollen analysis revealed little variation of local pine-birch forests. A testate amoebae transfer function was used to generate a quantitative water-table reconstruction; pollen, plant macrofossils, and charcoal were analy…

  • Disentangling the drivers for the development of a Baltic bog during the Little Ice Age in northern Poland

Open Access•Mariusz Gałka, Kazimierz Tobolski et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2014

  • Carbon accumulation rates in two poor fens with different water regimes

    Open Access•Barbara Fiałkiewicz-Kozieł, Beata Smieja-Król et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Referencias: 8

Fens are underestimated carbon sinks. Knowledge about their role in the sequestration of CO 2 in the past is limited. The research reported here focused on identifying long-term carbon accumulation rates (CARs) in a drained fen (Bagno Bruch) and a waterlogged fen (Bagno Mikołeska) in southern Poland. On the basis of 210 Pb and AMS 14 C dates and age–depth modeling, 7000- and 2000-year records of changes in bulk composition and carbon and sulfur c…

  • A database and synthesis of northern peatland soil properties and Holocene carbon and nitrogen accumulation

    Open Access•Julie Loisel, Zicheng Yu et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Citada por: 21•Referencias: 11

Here, we present results from the most comprehensive compilation of Holocene peat soil properties with associated carbon and nitrogen accumulation rates for northern peatlands. Our database consists of 268 peat cores from 215 sites located north of 45°N. It encompasses regions within which peat carbon data have only recently become available, such as the West Siberia Lowlands, the Hudson Bay Lowlands, Kamchatka in Far East Russia, and the Tibetan…
