Navigating Clinical Decision Support Systems in Emergency Medical Services
This article illustrates how clinical decision support systems (CDSS) are integrated into clinical reasoning and affect decision-making processes in emergency medical services (EMS). CDSS aims to assist clinical reasoning with relevant patient information and medical knowledge, facilitating decision-making. As CDSS become increasingly significant in Swedish healthcare, understanding their implementation is critical, particularly as technological …
How can the adoption of different digital technologies shape subsidiary disseminative capacity and reverse knowledge transfer in MNCs
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to advance the understanding of how different forms of digital technologies (i.e. digital communication technologies [DCTs] and digital in situ technologies [DSTs]) have varying effects on subsidiaries’ capacities to engage in reverse knowledge transfer (i.e. the flow of knowledge from subsidiaries to headquarters). Design/methodology/approach The increasing accessibility and sophistication of digital technolo…
Women with Fibromyalgia Prefer Resistance Exercise with Heavy Loads—A Randomized Crossover Pilot Study
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic pain condition associated with impaired muscle strength and exercise-induced pain. Physical exercise has been highlighted, by international clinical guidelines and stakeholders, as an essential component of rehabilitation in FM. Exposure to pain during exercise is generally correlated with elevated lactate levels and, additionally, is one known reason for persons with FM to avoid physical exercise and activity. A cr…
Working memory as a predictor of written arithmetical skills in children
Background. The study was conducted in an attempt to further our understanding of how working memory contributes to written arithmetical skills in children.Aim. The aim was to pinpoint the contribution of different central executive functions and to examine the contribution of the two subcomponents of children's written arithmetical skills.Sample and method. A total of 141 third- and fourth-graders were administered arithmetical tasks and measure…
The strategic impact of external networks
This paper explores the importance of relational embeddedness in external networks as a strategic resource for performance and competence development in multinational corporations (MNCs). Two different types of relational embeddedness at the subsidiary level—business embeddedness and technical embeddedness—are proposed to have an influence on the subsidiary's market performance as well as its importance for competence development in the MNC. Usin…
Cognitive Correlates of Visual Speech Understanding in Hearing-Impaired Individuals
This study examined the extent to which different measures of speechreading performance correlated with particular cognitive abilities in a population of hearing-impaired people. Although the three speechreading tasks (isolated word identification, sentence comprehension, and text tracking) were highly intercorrelated, they tapped different cognitive skills. In this population, younger participants were better speechreaders, and, when age was tak…
Vibrotactile Speech Tracking Support
Fourteen postlingually hearing-impaired participants took part in an intervention study on the potential benefit of three types of tactile aids (i.e., the Tactilator, Minivib 3, and the Tactaid 7). Although training by means of computerized tracking had substantial effects on speech tracking rate, no differential effects of type of aid emerged. However, a cognitive test battery revealed that training efficacy is directly dependent on the cognitiv…
