  • Raymond Michard and His Solar Physics Group at Paris-Meudon Observatory

Pierre Mein, Nicole Mein•ARTICLE•Journal of Astronomical History…•2020

During the second half of the twentieth century, an important Solar Research Department was developed in the Paris-Meudon Observatory thanks to Raymond Michard. After several years devoted to theoretical studies about stellar atmospheres at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris Michard joined the Paris- Meudon Observatory in 1954. He replaced Lucien d'Azambuja as Director of the Solar Section, and succeeded to attract new young scientists, while …

  • The middle Pleistocene Muridae (Mammalia, Rodentia) from l’Igue des Rameaux (Tarn-et-Garonne, France)

    Open Access•Marcel Jeannet, Pierre Mein•ARTICLE•Paléo•2016

The discovery of the karstic system of “l’Igue des Rameaux” at Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val (Tarn-et-Garonne, France) by the Speleologic Group of Caussade, allowed to bring out an interesting and important faunasboth of large and small mammals (Rouzaudet al. 1990). Unusually four species of Apodemus have been recognized and this paper has for purposeto define their biometrical and morphological particularities. This opportunity incites us to gather so…

  • Les Muridae (Mammalia, Rodentia) du Pléistocène moyen de l’Igue des Rameaux (Tarn-et-Garonne, France)

    Open Access•Marcel Jeannet, Pierre Mein•ARTICLE•Paléo•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 2

  • Brief communication

    Open Access•Glenn C Conroy, Brigitte Senut et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1996•References: 7

Miocene primates from southern Africa are extremely rare. For this reason we wish to place on record several interesting new fossil primate specimens recently recovered from the Miocene sites of Berg Aukas and Harasib in the Otavi Mountain region of northern Namibia. The new finds consist of a virtually complete atlas vertebra from Berg Aukas attributable to the hominoid Otavipithecus namibiensis and two teeth and four postcranial fragments from …

  • Diamonds in the desert

    Open Access•Glenn C Conroy, Martin Pickford et al.•ARTICLE•Evolutionary Anthropology Issues…•1993•Cited by: 7•References: 12

The mountains and deserts of Namibia hide many treasures—diamonds, gold, uranium, strategic minerals. But on the afternoon of June 4, 1991, we were searching Namibia's mountains for a rarer kind of stone, fossilized evidence of human evolution in southern Africa. What we found instead was the rarest “diamond” of all, one that no one had ever seen before on the African continent south of equatorial East Africa. What we found was incontrovertible e…
