This article examines the challenges Syrian refugees who arrived in Austria between 2008 and 2021 face in building social capital, where a lack of connectedness to the host community presents a key obstacle to their sense of belonging. This paper examines the governance dynamics behind public services for migrants and refugees to understand how COVID-19 has impacted them and what accounts for different levels of adaptive capacity. Ambivalence in Attitudes Toward Forgiveness
Are attitudes toward forgiveness ambivalent? To answer this question and explore whether such ambivalence predicts individuals' propensity to forgive and tendency to view forgiveness as desirable/virtuous, we asked undergraduates (N = 159) to complete measures of ambivalence toward forgiveness, attitudes toward forgiveness, and tendencies to be forgiving/vengeful. The effects of adult attachment style on post‐transgression response
Two studies examined the relation between adult attachment styles and post‐transgression responses. Secure participants were predicted to be forgiving, preoccupied participants to be grudge oriented, fearful participants to be avoidant, and dismissing participants to be vengeful. Study 1 was nonexperimental, using a community sample of adults ( N = 565). Participants wrote about a moderately severe past transgression. Results supported the predic…
The Role of Victim Embarrassment in Explaining Why Apologies Affect Reported (But Not Actual) Forgiveness
This research examines the mediating role of victims' embarrassment in explaining why apologies from transgressors sometimes affect victims' reported forgiveness, but not actual forgiveness toward transgressors. Victims sometimes insincerely communicate forgiveness following a transgressor's apology because they feel put on the spot and embarrassed and try to escape the awkwardness of such situations.
