  • Other ‘lenses’

Elena Allegri, Michael Eve et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social Work•2020•Cited by: 4•References: 6

The article describes the approach adopted in VeSTA, a training project in Piedmont (north-west Italy), funded by the EU's Fund for Asylum, Migration and Integration (FAMI 2014–2020). The aim of the project was to provide training for social workers and others professionals working with refugees and other migrants, and strengthen the network linking up these various actors. Our theoretical approach stresses the importance of asylum seekers’ socia…

  • Assimilation, Segmented

    Open Access•Michael Eve•CHAPTER•Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia of…•2015

Since the 1990s, the theory of segmented assimilation has had enormous influence on theorizing about the children of immigrants and the way they become incorporated into a society of immigration. It rejects the idea that assimilation is a straight line and that becoming more similar to natives (e.g., “more American”) is necessarily the way to social mobility, arguing that it can also have negative effects. This entry describes the theory and the …

  • Integrating via networks

    Michael Eve•ARTICLE•Ethnic and Racial Studies•2010•Cited by: 28•References: 15

The article analyses some general network mechanisms underlying the formation of social ties in order to argue that it is not only identity, cultural similarity or discrimination which creates clusters of people of the same 'origin' (in, say, friendship groups). Widely held assumptions about the logic underlying ethnic segregation are challenged and it is argued that migration itself leads to a re-organization of social networks which can produce…

  • Some sociological Bases of transnational Practices in Italy

    Open Access•Michael Eve•ARTICLE•Revue européenne des migrations…•2008•Cited by: 5•References: 17

Vincent Caradec, Michael Eve•ARTICLE•Réseaux•2002•Cited by: 1

  • Is friendship a sociological topic

    Open Access•Michael Eve•ARTICLE•European Journal of Sociology•2002•Cited by: 26

Sociologists have shown little interest in friendship. The rather fragmentary empirical work which does exist on friendship in modern society paradoxically tends to confirm the impression that the subject is of marginal importance; for friendship emerges from much research as a relationship which provides emotional support and small services but little else. Admittedly, there is also evidence indicating links with more classical sociological them…

  • Deux traditions d'analyse des reseaux sociaux

    Michael Eve•ARTICLE•Réseaux•2002•Cited by: 16•References: 1
