  • Does alma mater matter? An audit study of labour market outcomes of Canadian Bachelor's Degree recipients

    Open Access•Ann L Mullen, Jayne Baker et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Review of Sociology/Revue…•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 10

In many parts of the world, the rewards attached to a university degree vary significantly according to the name of the institution one attends, particularly in countries with highly stratified postsecondary systems. Because the Canadian higher education system is relatively homogenous and non-hierarchical, it has been generally accepted that Canadian graduates enter the labour market on equal footing regardless of where they matriculate. We test…

  • Copyright, digital sharing, and the liberal order: Sociolegal constructions of intellectual property in the era of mass digitization

    Guy Ménard, Gabriel Ménard•ARTICLE•Information Communication & Society•2016

Intellectual property (IP) rights policy has long been driven by rights-holder interests, leading to IP regimes focused on protecting private property at the expense of broadening public access to cultural works. The rise of instant, low-cost digital sharing practices, however, forces the sociolegal construction of IP as ‘property’ into crisis by contradicting the conception of creative works as commodities that can be exclusively ‘owned’ and exc…

  • An Unexpected Journey: Explicit and Implicit Religious Dimensions of Technology Throughout the Ages

    Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•Implicit Religion•2016

Contrary to a widespread assumption, technology is not a neutral reality which can be left to a purely self-referential understanding. Indeed, one cannot seriously grasp technological phenomena without becoming aware of the symbolic matrixes—that is, the wide sets of values, symbols, beliefs and myths—which have encoded technology in given periods of history. This paper examines these major symbolic matrixes from pre-history to the threshold of t…

  • L'alphabétisation: Charité Ou Droit Politique

    Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•International Review of Community…•2016

    Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•International Review of Community…•2016

    Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•International Review of Community…•2015

Roberto Motta, Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•International Review of Community…•2015•References: 3

  • Colonial past, voluntary association and far-right voting in France

John Veugelers, Guy Ménard et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnic and Racial Studies•2015•Cited by: 5•References: 21

We examine whether linked pluralism - association membership along cross-cutting lines - reduces the likelihood of voting for the far right. Data come from surveys of European ex-colonials (pieds noirs) conducted after the French national elections of 2002, 2007 and 2012. Results confirm that pied-noir support for far-right candidates in presidential and parliamentary elections greatly exceeded the average. This pattern was mediated by membership…

  • Environmental non-governmental organizations: Key players in development in a changing climate—a case study of Mali

    Open Access•Guy Ménard, Gabriel Ménard•ARTICLE•Environment Development and…•2013

  • Translation of “Présentation” from La Religion Implicite: Une Introduction

    Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•Implicit Religion•2009

Edward Bailey’s book, Implicit Religion: An Introduction, was published in 1998 by Middlesex University Press (London). This translation is part of a broader project to introduce an area of study which has been developing in Great Britain and in other English-speaking countries for about thirty years, to the French-speaking world. In 1996, Religiologiques, the journal of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Quebec in Montreal,…

  • 'O Come, All Ye Faithful…': Contemporary Sexuality, Transcendence and Implicit Religion

    Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•Implicit Religion•2005

Centuries of Judeo-Christianity have accustomed us to a quite radical dissociation between sex and spirituality. The history of humanity is however permeated with cultures which envisaged the body and its passions as a privileged road towards transcendence, as a vital quest for meaning and as a genuine religious experience. Through the study of four of its contemporary figures (the rave phenomenon, the fetish scene, roaming sexuality, and risky s…

  • The Moods of Marianne: Of Hijabs, Nikes, Implicit Religion and Post-Modernity

    Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•Implicit Religion•2004

This paper discusses the question of secularity in France, in the perspective of the new law passed by the French government in 2004 (inspired by the Government-commissioned Stasi Report), that sets out to prohibit the presence of all religious symbols in the public sphere, notably in the country’s public schools. The paper does not intend to discuss the political tenets of the debate. It rather raises an issue that is at once more limited and es…

  • Du berdache au Berdache: Lectures De l'Homosexualité Dans La Culture Québécoise

    Guy Ménard•ARTICLE•Anthropologie et Sociétés•2003•Cited by: 3
