  • Urbanisering av det samiske elektoratet

Open Access•Per Selle, Anne Julie Semb et al.•ARTICLE•Tidsskrift for samfunnsforskning•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 7

  • S ami

    Open Access•Anne Julie Semb•CHAPTER•Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia of…•2015

The Sami population in Norway consists of approximately forty to forty‐five thousand persons. For several decades, the Sami were subject to a systematic policy of assimilation that was known as Norwegianization. This policy led to a decline in the use and command of Sami languages, which traditionally have been the most important markers of Sami ethnicity. The Alta affair in Norwegian politics triggered large‐scale changes in the relations betwee…

  • Citizenship identity among Norwegian Sami in core Sami areas

Per Selle, Anne Julie Semb et al.•ARTICLE•Citizenship Studies•2013•Cited by: 3•References: 12

This analysis of citizenship identity among Sami living in core Sami areas in Norway clearly shows that the Sami population feel more closely connected to their local communities than is the case for non-Sami living in the same areas and for the Norwegian populace as a whole. Some significant differences also emerge as regards citizenship identity between Sami who have chosen to be registered in the Sami electoral roster and those who are not reg…

  • From 'Norwegian citizens' via 'citizens plus' to 'dual political membership'? Status, aspirations, and challenges ahead

    Anne Julie Semb•ARTICLE•Ethnic and Racial Studies•2012•Cited by: 7•References: 9

The Norwegian citizenship regime has gradually changed to accommodate some of the demands voiced by or on behalf of the Sami. This article describes and analyses these changes in terms of changing citizenship status for the Sami as a gradual move from 'Norwegian citizens' via 'citizens plus' to 'dual citizens'. Sami who are registered in the electoral roster for elections to the Sami Parliament possess political rights connected to two different …

  • Sami self‐determination in the making

    Open Access•Anne Julie Semb•ARTICLE•Nations and Nationalism•2005•Cited by: 5•References: 2

The article discusses whether principles of territorial or non‐territorial jurisdiction ought to guide the future distribution of decision‐making power between the Norwegian Sami Parliament and the Norwegian Parliament. It argues that an acceptable distribution of powers must satisfy two normative criteria: first, decision‐making power ought to be distributed on the basis of individuals' desire to be politically associated with some people rather…

  • The New Practice of UN-Authorized Interventions

    Open Access•Anne Julie Semb•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•2000•Cited by: 1•References: 12

The topic of this article is the changing scope of the principle of non-intervention. Whereas the principle of non-intervention was previously honored as the most appropriate principle for the regulation of interstate relations, various concerns have recently been advanced as justifications for interventions. This suggests that the scope of the principle of non-intervention has gone through important modifications since the end of the Cold War. T…
