  • Religiosity's Links to Adolescent Wellbeing and the Role of Supportive Networks and Sex

    Open Access•Saijun Zhang, Tess Lefmann et al.•ARTICLE•Youth & Society•2025•References: 41

Research has extensively examined religiosity's links to youth wellbeing, but it is unclear how the relationship may vary by supportive networks and sex. Analyzing data from the 2015 to 2020 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the results showed that religious salience was negatively associated with the risk of having a past-year major depressive episode (MDE, OR = 0.65), a substance use disorder ( OR = 0.77), and delinquency ( OR = 0.94). Su…

The current study examined and compared the relative influence of ecological factors on youth antisocial behaviors (i.e., aggression and rule‐breaking) using longitudinal data while assessing the moderating effect of youth attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis. The study used the fifth and sixth wave of data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study ( n = 2595; mean age = 9.26 at wave five) for the analysis. Multivar…

    Open Access•Carol Grace Hurst, Rebecca Reno et al.•ARTICLE•Social Work•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 2

This article addresses the importance of breastfeeding for the social work profession. Because breastfeeding is a critical component of maternal and child health, persistent racial and socioeconomic breastfeeding inequality is a social justice issue in need of social work commitment. Even while breastfeeding rates have been increasing in the United States there are some groups of mothers who initiate breastfeeding less frequently or have trouble …

  • Neuroscience in the HBSE Sequence

    Terri Combs-Orme, Terri Combs‐orme et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Teaching in Social Work•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Important findings from neuroscience research provide valuable knowledge for social work practice, and although these findings are already being incorporated into practice in many other disciplines, social work has been slow to integrate this content into foundation professional education. This article describes how one social work program incorporated this knowledge into Human Behavior in the Social Environment courses, noting both challenges an…
