Testing a family system-based intervention (ENTREN-F Programme) for a paediatric obesity sample by a randomized controlled trial
This study evaluated the effectiveness of 'ENTREN-F' -a multi-component, family system-based intervention-for managing paediatric obesity at National Health Primary Care. A 3-arm, parallel-design, single-blinded randomized controlled trial (RCT), 165 families were randomized: Arm 1) ENTREN-F(n = 62) is a 12-week cognitive-behavioural intervention (CBT) family system-based programme, addressing lifestyle changes, children's emotional and social de…
Prospective Associations of Physical Activity and Health-Related Physical Fitness in Adolescents with Down Syndrome
(1) Background: Numerous studies have focused on examining the association between PA levels and health-related physical fitness components in children or adolescents without disabilities. However, research on the association between PA and health-related physical fitness in adolescents with DS (Down syndrome) is limited, and most of the previous studies have been developed with a cross-sectional perspective. Therefore, the aim of the present stu…
The Investigation of Gender Differences in Subjective Wellbeing in Children and Adolescents
These results highlight the role of gender as an important factor in explaining differences in subjective wellbeing. Additionally, results indicate that gender differences in subjective wellbeing are observed in adolescents, but not in children, suggesting that the gender gap in subjective wellbeing begins at the age of 12. Mental health practitioners should pay attention to these findings in order to implement screening methods and interventions…
Wellbeing as a Protective Factor of Adolescent Health. The Up & Down Study
A longitudinal perspective of eating disorder risk in immigrant and Spanish native adolescents
Immigrant adolescent populations, particularly boys, seem to be vulnerable to ED. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)
Follow-up in healthy schoolchildren and in adolescents with Down syndrome
The findings of the UP&DOWN study may help the Health Information Systems and policy makers to identify the target population for primary prevention and health promotion policies, and to develop and test preventive strategies. Moreover, these data will allow following the trends at population level, as well as to modify/adapt/create new evidence-based physical activity guidelines at national level. The findings will also serve as a scientific pla…
Influence of health behaviours on the incidence of infection and allergy in adolescents
Excess weight and inadequate sleep duration are independently associated with the incidence of allergy symptoms in adolescents. Adequate sleep duration and weight during adolescence might be relevant for a decreased risk of suffering allergy symptoms
Immigrant Status, Acculturation and Risk of Overweight and Obesity in Adolescents Living in Madrid (Spain)
Patterns of sedentary behavior and compliance with public health recommendations in Spanish adolescents
The aims of the present study were: (i) describe patterns of sedentary behavior in Spanish adolescents; and (ii) determine the proportion of adolescents that do not meet the public health recommendations for sedentary behavior. This study comprised 1,724 Spanish adolescents (882 girls), aged 13 to 16 years. Patterns of sedentary behavior (TV viewing, use of computer games, console games and surfing the Internet) were assessed using the HELENA sed…
Behavioural correlates of active commuting to school in Spanish adolescents
Objective To examine the associations between lifestyle factors and active commuting to school in Spanish adolescents. Design Cross-sectional study. Lifestyle factors (overall/extracurricular physical activity, television viewing, reading as a hobby, sleep duration, breakfast/fruit intake, smoking and alcohol intake) as well as mode and duration of commuting to school were self-reported. Active commuters were defined as those adolescents who walk…
Recommended levels and intensities of physical activity to avoid low‐cardiorespiratory fitness in European adolescents
This study shows sex- and intensity-specific PA thresholds to discriminate between adolescents with a healthy CRF from those with a less favorable or unhealthy CRF level
Excessive TV viewing and cardiovascular disease risk factors in adolescents. The Avena cross-sectional study
Excessive TV viewing seems to be related to an unfavorable CVD risk factors profile in adolescence. Reducing TV viewing in overweight adolescents might be beneficial to decrease abdominal body fat
Validity of the Bouchard activity diary in Spanish adolescents
Objective Valid and simple instruments to assess physical activity (PA) in specific populations are required for health-related research. The aim of the present study was to assess the validity of the Bouchard activity diary (AD) in Spanish adolescents using an activity monitor to compare total PA and moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) obtained by both instruments. Design Sixty-one Spanish adolescents, aged 12–16 years, completed the Bouchard AD and …
Design and evaluation of a treatment programme for Spanish adolescents with overweight and obesity. The Evasyon Study
The treatment programme developed in the EVASYON study was designed as a national pilot study to be implemented as an effective treatment for adolescents with OW/OB into the Spanish Health Care Service
Physical activity as a preventive measure against overweight, obesity, infections, allergies and cardiovascular disease risk factors in adolescents
This paper describes the rationale, design, and methodologies used in the AFINOS Study. This multidisciplinary, multicenter study seeks to evaluate several aspects of existing relationships between routine physical activity/sedentary behaviour and several health status markers, specifically those related to the immune system. The results of this cross-sectional study will serve for comparisons with the available data obtained in laboratory settin…
