  • International Expert Statement on Israeli State Crime

  • Safe and just Earth system boundaries

Open Access•Johan Rockström, Jagdish Gupta et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2023

The stability and resilience of the Earth system and human well-being are inseparably linked 1–3 , yet their interdependencies are generally under-recognized; consequently, they are often treated independently 4,5 . Here, we use modelling and literature assessment to quantify safe and just Earth system boundaries (ESBs) for climate, the biosphere, water and nutrient cycles, and aerosols at global and subglobal scales. We propose ESBs for maintain…

  • Sexual orientation and adolescent suicide attempt and self‐harm

    Open Access•P Green, Lauren M O’Reilly et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Psychology and…•2021

Identifying as a sexual minority was associated with approximately 50% increased odds of SA/SH in adolescence after adjusting for unmeasured genetic and environmental factors shared by twins and for childhood psychopathology. The results support that environmental factors specifically associated with identifying as a sexual minority likely increase risk for SA/SH. Our findings highlight the need to monitor suicidality risk among this group

  • A green-gray path to global water security and sustainable infrastructure

    Open Access•Charles J Vörösmarty, Ben Stewart‐koster et al.•ARTICLE•Global Environmental Change•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 5

Sustainable development demands reliable water resources, yet traditional water management has broadly failed to avoid environmental degradation and contain infrastructure costs. We explore the global-scale feasibility of combining natural capital with engineering-based (green-gray) approaches to meet water security threats over the 21st century. Threats to water resource systems are projected to rise throughout this period, together with a signi…

  • Roles of Positive Psychology for Mental Health in UK Social Work Students

Open Access•Yasuhiro Kotera, P Green et al.•ARTICLE•The British Journal of Social Work•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 65

Despite high shame about mental health symptoms among UK social work students, positive psychological approaches to their mental health have not been investigated in depth. Emotional resilience has been a core skill in social work practice; however, its relationship with mental health is still unclear. Therefore, the primary purposes of this cross-sectional study were to (i) examine the relationships between mental health and positive psychologic…

  • Water on an urban planet

    Open Access•Robert I McDonald, Katherine Weber et al.•ARTICLE•Global Environmental Change•2014•Cited by: 33•References: 3

Urban growth is increasing the demand for freshwater resources, yet surprisingly the water sources of the world's large cities have never been globally assessed, hampering efforts to assess the distribution and causes of urban water stress. We conducted the first global survey of the large cities’ water sources, and show that previous global hydrologic models that ignored urban water infrastructure significantly overestimated urban water stress. …

  • Global threats to human water security and river biodiversity

    Open Access•C J Vörösmarty, Peter B Mcintyre et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2010

  • Geospatial Indicators of Emerging Water Stress

Charles J Vörösmarty, Ellen Douglas et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2005•References: 23

This study demonstrates the use of globally available Earth system science data sets for water assessment in otherwise information-poor regions of the world. Geospatial analysis at 8 km resolution shows that 64% of Africans rely on water resources that are limited and highly variable. Where available, river corridor flow is critical in augmenting local runoff, reducing impacts of climate variability, and improving access to freshwater. A signific…

  • Drymen - Village Growth and Community Problems

    Open Access•P Green•ARTICLE•Sociologia Ruralis•1964•References: 1

Drymen; Village Growth and Community ProblemsSince 1950 rising personal incomes, increased car ownership and rising land values within urban areas have brought an intensified building programme in rural districts. Villages at some distance from cities are now affected by a pressure on building land and face the threat of substantial dormitory growth. Rural settlements in west Scotland are faced with this kind of situation owing to the magnitude o…
