  • Microblade Industries of Northeast China

    Open Access•Sergei A Gladyshev•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2025

Microblade techniques appeared in southern Siberia and spread south and east at the early MIS 2. Northeast China occupies a key geographical position with respect to the spread of microblade technology, as it is bounded by southern Siberia and Mongolia in the west and northwest, the Russian Far East in the northeast, the Japanese Archipelago in the east, and the Korean Peninsula and northern China in the south. Here we examine microblade sites of…

  • Correlation of the Late Paleolithic in Primorie with the Contemporary Complexes in China and South Korea

    Open Access•Sergei A Gladyshev•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2024

The origins of the Paleolithic in Primorie are still under discussion. The current hypothesis of peopling from the northwest via the Amur region has not been supported by facts. The nearest Late Paleolithic complexes with clear stratigraphy and 14С dates are located on the Selemzha River (Ust’-Ulma sites) and in Southern Sakhalin (Ogon’ki 5 site). There are no dated Paleolithic sites between these sites and the Ustinovka-Suvorovo group in Souther…

  • The Early Paleolithic Go Da Site and the Bifacial Lithic Industries of Southeast Asia

    Open Access•A V Kandyba, A M Chekha et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2022•Cited by: 4•References: 21

The lithic industry of the stratified site Go Da in Central Vietnam is described, and its place among the contemporaneous Early Paleolithic sites of East and Southeast Asia is determined. Results of a morphological technotypological analysis of the Go Da assemblage are provided. Go Da is attributed to the An Khe-type sites situated in the eponymous area of Vietnam. Cores and tools were made from pebbles, less often from fl akes. Primary reduction…

  • The Early Paleolithic Go Da Site and the Bifacial Lithic Industries of Southeast Asia

  • Microblade Percussion in the Upper Paleolithic of Mongolia: On the Problem of Origin and Distribution Within Central Asia and the Far East

    Open Access•Andrey Tabarev, Sergei A Gladyshev et al.•ARTICLE•Teoriya i praktika arkheologicheski…•2021

The focus of this investigation is on the technology of micro-percussion in the Upper Paleolithic of Mongolia. Micro-percussion is defined as the entire assemblage of lithic artifacts associated with the production of microblades. The complexes analyzed here include microcores and microblades, but not tools made of them. Until recently, microblade percussion has never been considered a distinct trend emergent in the lithic technology of the Early…

  • Late Paleolithic of the Maritime Region after LGM

    Open Access•Sergei A Gladyshev•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2021

Paleolithic sites in the Russian Primorye appeared not earlier than 18,000 cal. BP. In the territories to the south and southwest, there are a large number of sites with microblade industries dating back to the time before the beginning of LGM. The largest number of dated sites falls at the beginning of LGM (24,000-20,000 cal. BP). Researchers suggest that after 20,000 and up to 15,000 cal. BP, due to the changes in climate, there was an outflow …

  • Stone Industry of Somchai Cave (Excavations of 1980–1981)

Open Access•A V Kandyba, Gia Doi Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•Vestnik NSU Series History and…•2021

Purpose. This article is dedicated to the collection of stone tools obtained as a result of excavations of the Somchai cave (North Vietnam) in 1980–1981. Somchai cave was discovered as a cultural object in 1980 and was investigated by various Vietnamese archaeologists in 1980–1981. The Somchai stone industry was attributed by Vietnamese researchers to the cultural and chronological stages of Hoabin II (Mezolithic) and Hoabin III (Early Neolithic)…

This study deals with the origin of bifacial industry in the Lower Paleolithic of Southeast Asia. We describe stone tools from the stratifi ed sites of Goda and Rocktyng near the town of Ankhe, Vietnam. The lithics represent a homogeneous industry characterized by uniform Lower Paleolithic techniques of primary and secondary reduction. Cores and tools were made of pebbles, and some tools were manufactured on fl akes. The tool-kit includes bifaces…

Blanks also became progressively smaller, while the toolkit remained virtually unchanged. Two detectable principal technological trends incl…
