  • A Quantitative Basis for Intersource Differences in Tracer Concentrations for Accurate Sediment Source Fingerprinting

Open Access•Wei Dai, Tianmin Dang et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2025

Sediment source fingerprinting provides support for targeted soil erosion control and land degradation mitigation. Tracer selection and source classification are the main considerations in this approach. However, the impact of tracer concentration divergences among different sediment sources on the accuracy of source apportionment remains uncertain and has not been quantitatively investigated. Here, artificial and virtual mixtures were created to…

Anatolia has developed as a favorite geography where people have lived with values reflecting the diversity of the housing culture for many years.Konya has a civil and architectural understanding that has come from the past to the present with its characteristics such as being located in the middle of Anatolia, being on trade routes, and harboring a deep-rooted settlement culture. The housing practices of this deep-rooted history are the subject o…

  • Study on the dietary pattern and local isotopes of the Xiaoshuangqiao Shang Dynasty (1400 bc) site in China

    Open Access•N Wang, Siyuan Tao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 19

Here, we investigate human diet and origins using carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios at the site of Xiaoshuangqiao in Henan Province, which dates to the middle Shang Dynasty (1435-1412 cal bc). A total of the 66 specimens (51 humans, six cattle, five pigs, three sheep and one dog) were isotopically analysed for δ13C and δ15N values. The population (δ13C = −9.1 ± 1.5‰, n = 51) was found to consume a predominately C4 diet (millet), and no di…

  • Global surveillance of trends in cancer survival 2000–14 (Concord-3)

Open Access•Claudia Allemani, Tomohiro Matsuda et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2018

BACKGROUND: In 2015, the second cycle of the CONCORD programme established global surveillance of cancer survival as a metric of the effectiveness of health systems and to inform global policy on cancer control. CONCORD-3 updates the worldwide surveillance of cancer survival to 2014. METHODS: CONCORD-3 includes individual records for 37·5 million patients diagnosed with cancer during the 15-year period 2000-14. Data were provided by 322 populatio…

  • Small-mass graphite preparation for AMS 14 C measurements performed at Gigcas, China

    Open Access•P Ding, C D Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2017•Referencias: 7

The sealed tube Zn reduction method has been applied for small-mass samples ranging from 15 to 100 μg carbon preparation for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon ( 14 C) measurements at the AMS- 14 C Preparation Lab in Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIGCAS). The volume of the sealed reactor tube is reduced to ~0.75 cm 3 in order to increase the yield of graphite. Graphite targets are measured at the K…

  • Fossil-Fuel-Derived CO 2 Contribution to the Urban Atmosphere in Guangzhou, South China, Estimated by 14 CO 2 Observation, 2010–2011

    Open Access•Ping Ding, C D Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2013

From October 2010 to November 2011, the urban atmospheric CO 2 concentration in Guangzhou ranged from 550 to 460 ppm, with mean monthly concentration fluctuating between 530 and 470 ppm. A lower concentration was observed in summer and autumn, while a higher concentration occurred in spring and winter. The urban atmospheric CO 2 δ 13 C value varied between −9.00 and −13.10%, with mean monthly value fluctuating between −9.60 and −11.80%. There was…

  • Buried Ancient Forest and Implications for Paleoclimate Since the Mid-Holocene in South China

    Open Access•C D Shen, P Ding et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2010•Referencias: 19

The historical evolution of an ancient forest that developed at Gaoyao, south China, can be divided into 4 stages of radiocarbon intervals (1.1–1.5, 2.0–3.5, 3.6–4.0, and 4.3–4.9 ka) in which the last 3 stages all developed in a wetland and formed humic layers of 2.0, 0.5, and 0.7 m depth, respectively. The humic layers were interrupted by 2 white-gray silty clay layers that most likely formed during climate fluctuations. Four drought events were…

  • Improved Application of Bomb Carbon in Teeth for Forensic Investigation

    Open Access•N Wang, C D Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2010•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 19

While radiocarbon is widely applied in dating ancient samples, recent studies reveal that 14 C concentrations in modern samples can also yield precise ages due to the atmospheric testing of thermonuclear devices between 1950 and 1963. 14 C concentrations in both enamel and organic matter of 13 teeth from 2 areas in China were examined to evaluate and improve this method of forensic investigation. Choosing enamel near the cervix of the tooth can r…

  • Turnover Rate of Soil Organic Matter and Origin of Soil 14 Co 2 in Deep Soil from a Subtropical Forest in Dinghushan Biosphere Reserve, South China

    Open Access•P Ding, C D Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2010•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 35

This paper examines the carbon isotopes ( 13 C, 14 C) of soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil CO 2 from an evergreen broadleaf forest in southern China during the rainy season. The distribution of SOC δ 13 C, and SOC content with depth, exhibits a regular decomposition of SOC compartments with different turnover rates. Labile carbon is the main component in the topsoil (0–12 cm) and has a turnover rate between 0.1 and 0.01 yr –1 . In the middle sec…

  • Association of misconceptions about HIV transmission and discriminatory attitudes in rural China

    Han‐Zhu Qian, H-Z Qian et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2007

This study examined HIV-related knowledge and attitudes among 524 randomly selected adult residents from 12 rural Chinese communities where HIV infection among plasma donors has been reported. Most participants were familiar with the main routes of HIV transmission but had substantial misconceptions about risk of HIV transmission through casual social contacts. Higher score of misconception and being older and married independently predicted stro…
