  • Negotiated strategic regional planning: Emerging practice in the London–Cambridge corridor

    Open Access•Alan Mace, Alessandra Mossa•ARTICLE•Town Planning Review•2024

Formal regional planning structures were abolished in England in 2011. One response has been to call for their restitution, another has been to argue instead for negotiated strategic regional planning. The latter envisages the formation of partnerships in lieu of formal structures, with two key benefits being it is less vulnerable to government tinkering and is more attuned to economic and political actors. The case is a collaborative and interdisciplinary design charrette on sustainable urbanism for envisioning the future of the Greater Metropolitan Area of Florence in Italy. The experiment entailed the attempt to in…

Open Access•Nancy Holman, Alessandra Mossa et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•2018•Cited by: 7•References: 39

For 30 years, planning has been attacked both rhetorically and materially in England as governments have sought to promote economic deregulation over landuse planning. Our paper examines two new moments of planning deregulation. These are the loosening of regulation around short-term letting in London and the new permitted development rights, which allow for office to residential conversion without the need for planning permission. Whilst these m…
