This article stems from my experience of conducting ethnography on indigenous Dayak Benawan women in West Kalimantan for approximately two years. Documenting the experiences and knowledge of indigenous Dayak Benawan women was a challenge for me as a researcher, a man, and part of the Dayak Benawan people. Reflection on field data reveals that indigenous women of Dayak Benawan experience multiple oppressions of poverty, starting from the family sy…

  • Understanding and assessing uncertainty of observational climate datasets for model evaluation using ensembles

Open Access•Marius Zumwald, Knsel et al.•ARTICLE•Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews…•2020

In climate science, observational gridded climate datasets that are based on in situ measurements serve as evidence for scientific claims and they are used to both calibrate and evaluate models. However, datasets only represent selected aspects of the real world, so when they are used for a specific purpose they can be a source of uncertainty. Here, we present a framework for understanding this uncertainty of observational datasets which distingu…

  • The widsom of children-in-context

    Open Access•J Gregory, Janet E Gregory et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2001•References: 2

Children-in-families-in-communities are embedded in social realities that provide the matrix in which they grow, learn and develop and against which they test their identity. To view children-in-context it is necessary to shift from a dualist perspective that sees children and context as two separate entities to a view that sees the two as one at the interface of an ongoing transformational relationship. Childhood viewed in specific contexts, cul…

Despite a shift to the more sensitive treatment of women reporting sexual attacks, the attrition rate remains high. The police practice of ‘no-criming’ a high proportion of cases is compounded by the negative role of the Crown Prosecution Service and the extre…
