The Intergenerational Transmission of Marital Instability Reconsidered
National survey data reveal that children .from marriages that were disrupted during their childhood have a hig er rate of divorce than children from intact marriages. The present study investigates two hypotheses to account for this phenomenon. These include the adoption of: (a) marriage-related attitudes antagonistic to successful marital adjustment and (b) maladaptive styles of marital interaction. Informational Feedback in Training Behavioral Coders
Videotapes of children's behavior in a natural setting were used to train 24 Ss to use a coding system. Ss were randomly assigned to training under conditions of immediate feedback, delayed feedback, and no feedback. Analyses of Ss responses to a criterion videotape following training showed that feedback was superior to no feedback. The superiority of immediate feedback to delayed feedback was shown in evaluating performance during training but …
