  • On the Internal Development of the Lithic Technology in Korea since MIS 4 stage

    Gi-Kil Lee, 한국구석기학회 한국구석기학회•ARTICLE•Journal of Korean Palaeolithic…•2024

One of the controversial issues in Korean Paleolithic research is establishing the technical concept of the Middle Paleolithic. In this regard, the manufacturing technique of a 65,000-year-old lithic industry excavated from the first cultural layer of the Dosan site was analyzed. As a result, a technique of selecting appropriate pebble and manufacturing flakes for blank without pre-adjustment, a technique for producing sharp rectangular flakes by…

  • Multiple sources of the archaeological evidences from the Sinbuk Upper Paleolithic site and their relation in the Northeast Asia

  • Absolute Chronology of Gosan-Ri-Type Pottery, the Oldest Manufactured Pottery in Korea

    Open Access•Myung-Jin Kim, Jae-Won Go et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 14

Gosan-ri-type pottery (GTP) is a unique plant-fiber-tempered pottery from Korea and has only been found in Early Neolithic sites on Jeju Island. In this study, we conducted radiocarbon ( 14 C) dating for one GTP sample and 10 charcoal samples collected from archaeological structures in which GTP was found in 2012. The measurement conditions, the internal quality assurance test, and the reliability test indicate that each 14 C date is very reliabl…

  • Were tanged points mechanically delivered armatures? Functional and morphometric analyses of tanged points from an Upper Paleolithic site at Jingeuneul, Korea

    Open Access•Gi-Kil Lee, Katsuhiro Sano•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2019•Cited by: 14•References: 42

A total of 99 tanged points have been unearthed from the Jingeuneul site in Jinan-gun, Korea. The exceptionally large number of tanged points suggests a specific site function at this location. Even though the tanged point is one of the representative tool types for Korean Upper Paleolithic assemblages, the function of this tool is not well known because no systematic use-wear analyses have yet been undertaken. Here, we conduct a use-wear analysi…

  • Obsidians from the Sinbuk archaeological site in Korea — Evidences for strait crossing and long-distance exchange of raw material in Paleolithic Age

    Open Access•Gi-Kil Lee, Jongchan Kim•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 3

  • Characteristics of Paleolithic industries in Southwestern Korea during MIS 3 and MIS 2

    Open Access•Gi-Kil Lee, Gikil Lee•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2011•Cited by: 11•References: 4
