  • Address forms in Egyptian vernacular and their English equivalence: A translation-oriented study

    This study investigates Netflix subtitling of address forms from vernacular Egyptian Arabic into English and the strategies used for subtitling them. Using the corpus manager and text analysis software, Sketch-Engine, the address forms in the Egyptian series ArD Al-NefaQ “Land of Hypocrite,” consisting of 30 episodes, are identified. Adopting Díaz Cintas and Remael (2014) taxonomy of subtitling strategies, the findings showed that the subtitlers …
