  • Genetics of head circumference in infancy

    Open Access•Karri Silventoinen, M J Karvonen et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2011

OBJECTIVES: Previous studies have shown strong genetic influence to head circumference (HC), but still little is known on the development of genetic etiology of HC in infancy, especially in non-Caucasian populations. Thus, we decided to analyze the genetics of HC growth in Japanese infants. METHODS: Longitudinal measures of HC were available from birth to 13 months of age in 206 monozygotic and 156 dizygotic complete twin pairs. Genetic modeling …

  • All cause mortality and its determinants in middle aged men in Finland, The Netherlands, and Italy in a 25 year follow up

Alessandro Menotti, ANCEL KEYS et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1991•Cited by: 1•References: 15

STUDY OBJECTIVE--The aims were (1) to compare all cause mortality in population samples of different cultures; and (2) to cross predict fatal event by risk functions involving risk factors usually measured in cardiovascular epidemiology. DESIGN--The study was a 25 year prospective cohort study. The prediction of all cause mortality was made using the multiple logistic equation as a function of 12 risk factors; the prediction of months lived after…

  • Some anthropometric and functional dimensions of the pygmy (Kivu Twa)

    Open Access•J Ghesquiêre, J L Ghesquiere et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1981

At the Institut pour la Recherche Scientifique en Afrique Centrale (I.R.S.A.C.), Station of Lwiro on Lake Kivu, Republic of Zaire, anthropometric and spirometric measurements were made on 25 male members of a pygmy clan, living the traditional hunter-gatherer's life on the slopes of the Mitumba mountain range. The response of 15 men to graded exercise was tested on a bicycle ergometer. The morphology of the Kivu Twa was in agreement with that des…
