    Open Access•Robert Beylot•ARTICLE•Aethiopica•2013

Bartalomēwos, an Agame monk and Emperor Zarʾa Yāʿqob’s teacher before his accession to the throne, was a disciple of the monk Esṭifānos (1397/98–1444) who was a famous leader of a religious and political dissident group. He suffered pains and was eventually tortured to death after 1444 for refusing to prostrate himself before the sovereign, as Esṭifānos had taught him

    Open Access•Robert Beylot•ARTICLE•Aethiopica•2012

In his work about Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, Gérard de Nerval brings three characters together, Solomon, the Queen and Adoniram. He was interested in a French author of the XVIIIth century, Nicolas Lenglet-Dufresnoy. Nerval seems to have read in a book of the same, about Hermetism, the title of a work from Michael Maier, German alchemist of the late Renaissance, the Septimana Philosophica which consists of a philosophical dialogue between So…

    Open Access•Robert Beylot•ARTICLE•Aethiopica•2012

Latin medieval parallels to the malkʾa Maryam were reported in a previous paper. Since, a french scholar issued a study about Mary’s place in the medieval liturgy and her physical presence in the liturgical symbolic. So the latin texts in question are replaced in a whole. The possibility of a continuation until the Renaissance is explored. In the baroque ages we find in France a marial association from bavarian origin, internationally represented…

  • Du Kebra Nagast

    Open Access•Robert Beylot•ARTICLE•Aethiopica•2012•Cited by: 2

Starting from the reflexion on the legend of the Queen of Sheba’s hairy leg, the author tries to disentangle the inextricable network of traditions – Egyptian, Jewish, Byzantine and Arab – and to find an historical thread which may explain the many syncretic rehandlings that lead to the original redaction of Kebra Nagast, the «Glory of the Kings», the Ethiopian dynasty’s founding text. All this network of traditions seems to converge towards the …

  • Sur quelques hétérodoxes éthiopiens. Estifanos, Abakerazun, Gabra Masih, Ezra
