Angela Chi-Ming Lee, David I Walker et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Moral Education•2022

Emerging adulthood is a unique and distinct period demographically, subjectively, and in terms of identity exploration in developed and developing countries. Open Access•Kathryn B Anderson, Anna M Stewart‐Ibarra et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2020

Dengue viruses (DENV) pose a significant and increasing threat to human health across broad regions of the globe. Currently, prevention, control, and treatment strategies are limited. Promising interventions are on the horizon, including multiple vaccine candidates under development and a renewed and innovative focus on controlling the vector, Aedes aegypti. However, significant gaps persist in our understanding of the similarities and difference…

  • Adolescents’ application of the virtues across five cultural contexts

    Stephen J Thomas, David I Walker et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2019•Cited by: 2

Little is known about adolescent applications of the virtues such as honesty, responsibility and courage across different cultural contexts. Using the Adolescent Intermediate Concepts Measure we analyze samples of adolescents (ages 12 to 20; N = 9,112) from 5 contexts: North Macedonia, Mexico, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Across samples, adolescents provide evidence of developmental growth in the ability to apply virtue conc…

  • A Habit of Social Action

    Open Access•Emma Taylor-Collins, Tom Harrison et al.•ARTICLE•Voluntas Revista Internacional de…•2018•Cited by: 6•References: 8

Youth social action—activities such as volunteering, campaigning, and fundraising—has gained traction in the UK and internationally in recent years as governments have supported initiatives to encourage adolescents to develop a ‘habit’ of social action. However, there is not convincing evidence on what a habit of social action is. This study involved a questionnaire with 4518 16–20-year-olds in the UK and finds that moral and civic virtue identit…

The authors used a version of the Intermediate Concept Measure for Adolescents, involving dilemmas, to assess an important component of character—moral judgement—among 4053 pupils aged 14–15. Data were generated in 33 UK schools of varying types between February 20…

  • Postconventional Moral Thinking

James R Rest, Darcia Narv&nbsp ez et al.•BOOK•Postconventional Moral Thinking•1999

Although Lawrence Kohlberg provided major ideas for psychological research in morality for decades, today some critics regard his work as outmoded, beyond repair, and too faulty for anybody to take seriously. These critics suggest that research would advance more profitably by taking a different approach. Postconventional Moral Thinking acknowledges particular philosophical and psychological problems with Kohlberg's theory and methodology, and pr…

  • Dit2

James R Rest, Darcia Narvaez et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Educational Psychology•1999

The Denning Issues Test, Version 2 (DIT2), updates dilemmas and items, shortens the original Defining Issues Test (DIT1) of moral judgment, and purges fewer participants for doubtful response reliability. DIT1 has been used for over 25 years. DIT2 makes 3 changes: in dilemmas and items, in the algorithm of indexing, and in the method of detecting unreliable participants. With all 3 changes, DIT2 is an improvement over DIT1. The validity criteria …

  • The relationship between moral decision making and patterns of consolidation and transition in moral judgment development

    Stephen J Thomas, Stephen J Thoma et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1999•Cited by: 5•References: 2

Following models that describe intraindividual correlates of stage transitions (S. S. Snyder & D. H. Feldman, 1984), this study assessed the relation between a measure of consolidation and transition in moral judgment development and the utility of moral concepts in sociomoral decision making. The study extends previous research in suggesting that individuals use moral concepts differently as they cycle through periods of consolidation and transi…
