Facilitators and barriers of public–private partnerships for universal health coverage in sub-Saharan Africa: A scoping review
Universal health coverage (UHC) provides a platform for attaining ‘Health for All’. Attaining UHC requires substantial investment and resources in the health sector. This can be challenging for many sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries. Public–private partnerships (PPPs) could be a potential solution. The implementation of healthcare PPPs for developing health system capacities for UHC presents both significant opportunities and notable challenges…
Kia Whakatōmuri te Haere Whakamua: Applying an Indigenous Qualitative Method with Rangatahi Māori and Whānau
Many Indigenous- specific research paradigms are used internationally. Kaupapa Māori is one such paradigm that privileges and legitimises Māori knowledge, culture, language, customs and protocols. The qualitative Kaupapa Māori paradigm presented here includes establishing an expert advisory rōpū and a Māori-led research team, developing and pilot testing a Māori data collection method (wānanga interviews), conducting wānanga, and analysing the co…
Delivering optimal weight gain advice to pregnant women by lead maternity carer midwives in a real-world setting to optimise health outcomes (DOT study): A case study protocol
ACTRN12623001228673 with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry: 29 November 2023
EuroQol data for assessment of population health needs and instrument evaluation (EQ-DAPHNIE): A study for enhancing population health assessment
The EQ-DAPHNIE project represents a significant advancement in generating large, representative, and comparable population health datasets across multiple countries. By employing precise sampling strategies, robust recruitment and data collection methods, and rigorous quality control measures, the project aims to provide a valuable resource for assessing and understanding population health and evaluating various health-related quality of life (HR…
Design and implementation of data quality controls in the EQ-DAPHNIE study: Insights from the pilot phase and 15-country analysis
The quality control measures implemented throughout the EQ-DAPHNIE project effectively addressed common issues such as bot responses, speeding, and missing data, resulting in generally high-quality and representative datasets. However, variability across countries underscores the need to account for quality indicators when using the data for norm-setting or cross-country comparisons
Creating an SF-6Dv2 social value set for New Zealand
The SF-6D health descriptive system and its second version published in 2020, the SF-6Dv2, is used worldwide for valuing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for economic evaluation and measuring patient-reported health outcomes. In this study, a valuation tool was developed and applied to create a social value set, comprising 18,750 health state values, for the SF-6Dv2 for New Zealand (NZ). This tool was adapted and extended from the one used …
Describing the health-related quality of life of Māori adults in Aotearoa me Te Waipounamu (New Zealand)
To reduce inequities experienced by Māori it is crucial that the health status of Māori and the values Māori place on health-related quality of life are properly understood. This can only be achieved using Māori-specific data
Mixed-Methods Survey of Healthcare Workers’ Experiences of Personal Protective Equipment during the Covid-19 Pandemic in Aotearoa/New Zealand
There have been widespread issues with the supply and distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) globally throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, raising considerable public concern. We aimed to understand the experiences of healthcare workers using PPE during the first COVID-19 surge (February-June 2020) in Aotearoa/New Zealand (NZ). This study consisted of an online, voluntary, and anonymous survey, distributed nationwide via multimodal recr…
Private choices, public costs: Evaluating cost-shifting between private and public health sectors in New Zealand
Creating a priority list of non-communicable diseases to support health research funding decision-making
Is the tobacco ‘footfall’ argument justified for tobacco purchases in New Zealand convenience stores
Our results do not support claims that tobacco drives one-quarter of footfall into stores or that customers who purchase tobacco spend almost twice as much as non-tobacco customers. Combined purchases of tobacco and non-tobacco items constituted 5.5% of transactions; the impact on a store's profitability of removing tobacco sales is unknown and could be the focus of future research
A new tool for creating personal and social EQ-5D-5L value sets, including valuing 'dead
The EuroQol Group's health descriptive systems, the EQ-5D-3L and its successor introduced in 2009, the EQ-5D-5L, are widely used worldwide for valuing health-related quality of life for cost-utility analysis and patient-reported health outcome measures. A new online tool for creating personal and social EQ-5D-5L value sets was recently developed and trialled in New Zealand (NZ). The tool, which includes extensive checks of the quality of particip…
Prevalence and characteristics of tobacco purchases in convenience stores: Results of a postpurchase intercept survey in Dunedin, New Zealand
Tobacco products constitute a small proportion of items purchased from Dunedin convenience stores and are typically not purchased with non-tobacco items. Our findings are inconsistent with arguments that most small retailers rely on tobacco sales
Prioritising the investigation of organised crime
Organised crime is becoming increasingly sophisticated and pervasive. Responding effectively to the dynamic and multifaceted nature of organised criminal activity is challenging. Law enforcement agencies need to find new and innovative ways to meet the demands of an ever-increasing and complex workload. Targeting resources is essential if the associated cost of organised crime is to be contained. This paper outlines a novel approach for ranking o…
Hepatitis C Seroprevalence Among HIV-Infected Childbearing Women in New York State in 2006
The impact of an increase in excise tax on the retail price of tobacco in New Zealand
Tobacco companies do not appear to be increasing the RRPs of budget brands in line with tobacco excise tax increases. The increasing price differential between budget brands, and mainstream and premium brands may undermine cessation and impede realisation of New Zealand's Smokefree 2025 goal
