  • Salud mental, conflictos sociales y cultura de paz

Open Access•Wilson López-López, Alfonso Urzúa et al.•ARTICLE•Revista de Estudios Sociales•2026

This article offers a panoramic overview of the complex relationship between mental health, violence, and peacebuilding, and introduces the different studies that comprise this thematic issue. It adopts an integrative perspective that weaves together empirical evidence, theoretical reflection, and psychosocial practice in order to examine the individual and collective impacts of social conflicts on psychological well being. In doing so, it unders…

  • Health warning labels on cannabis products. What is the best design

  • A Dog Accompanying a Man Makes Social Threatening Contexts Less Aversive and Enhances Perceived Safety Regardless of Societal Safety Levels

    Rafael Delgado-Rodríguez, Carlos Gantiva et al.•ARTICLE•Anthrozoös•2024•References: 71

Research shows that the inclusion of a dog in pictures showing a man in threatening scenarios improves women’s emotional reactions to them. However, the magnitude of this “dog-accompanying effect” (i.e., whether the inclusion of a dog renders socially threatening scenes less aversive, neutral, or positive) in societies differing in terms of safety remains unknown. To address this, undergraduate women from societies differing in safety levels (low…

  • Message frames in health warnings and plain packaging. What effects do they have on non-smokers

    Open Access•Carlos Gantiva, Nicolás Correal-Grijalba et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education Journal•2022

Objective: The key to controlling tobacco use lies in preventing new smokers. Graphic health warnings and plain packaging are policy interventions to discourage cigarette consumption. This study examined the effect of the warning message frame (gain vs loss) and cigarette packaging (branded vs plain) in non-smokers. Methods: Young adult non-smokers aged 18–22 years ( n = 282) were recruited online and randomised to one of four experimental condit…

  • Impact of e-liquid warning labels on young adults’ perception of e-cigarettes and intention to use them

    Carlos Gantiva, Luna Angel-Sanint et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2021

The results suggest that text WLs on e-liquid vials are moderately effective in preventing e-cigarette use in young adults. However, they capture less attention than the rest of the vial and fail to increase the perception of addictiveness. It is suggested to explore other types of design to increase the effectiveness of WLs

  • Emotional response to pictures of the armed conflict in Colombia

Ryan Redner, Mónica Arias-Higuera et al.•ARTICLE•Peace and Conflict Journal of…•2020•Cited by: 1

  • Eficacia de las etiquetas de advertencia en las cajetillas de cigarrillo

Open Access•Carlos Gantiva, Stefanny Palacio et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Panamericana de Salud…•2018

These results suggest that, initially, attention is focused on the cigarette brand, and only then on the warning label. The inability of warning labels to capture early-phase attention decreases their effectiveness, especially in smokers. We suggest that warning labels be enlarged to facilitate increased attention response

  • Modulation of Physiological Responses as Indices of Attentional Bias in Dysphoria
