Do remittance inflows reduce growth instability in Sub-Saharan Africa
Remittances have become one of the most important sources of development finance in developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. They provide a stable source of household income for consumption and can therefore play a role in stabilizing economic cycles. Indeed, migrant remittance flows can alleviate economic growth instability by easing constraints on domestic resources and indirectly increase growth instability through real exchan…
Effect of Public Education Expenditure on Income Inequality in Low‐Income Countries
This paper aims to analyse the distributional effects of public social expenditure. To this end, it explores the conditional effects of education expenditure on income inequality in 42 low‐income countries from 1998 to 2022. It is innovative compared to previous work in that it uses both a parametric method (instrumental variable method) and a semi‐parametric method (Smoothed Instrumental Variables Quantile Regression). The findings indicate that…
Tax Revenue Mobilization in Developing Countries
In developing economies with limited resources and tax compliance challenges, we examine how involving multiple veto players within the governance framework influences tax revenue. We performed a dynamic panel model on 104 countries and showed that tax revenue reacts positively to the size of political veto players. Our analysis also reveals a nonlinear effect indicating an optimal balance of veto points. This balance highlights the need for a go…
Political stability and fiscal consolidation in sub‐Saharan African countries
Fiscal policy decision‐making in sub‐Saharan African countries has not always been understood, and the existing literature has generally emphasised the role of macroeconomic factors to justify government fiscal performances. This study highlights the essential role of political stability in the fiscal consolidation decision‐making process in sub‐Saharan African countries. We perform a panel logit model for twenty‐seven (27) sub‐Saharan African co…
