  • Emotion regulation effects of Ayahuasca in experienced subjects during implicit aversive stimulation: An fMRI study

Open Access•Tiago Arruda Sanchez, Lucas Rego Ramos et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2024

  • Decolonization is a metaphor towards a different ethic. The case from psychedelic studies

    Open Access•Christine Hauskeller, Taline Artinian et al.•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Science Reviews•2022•Cited by: 5•References: 14

Indigenous psychedelic uses have long been imbricated with colonialism and its afterlives. Amidst tensions from accelerating investor interest in psychedelics and calls to decolonize research and practices, we argue that the study of psychedelics is troubled by dualisms used in both colonial and decolonial thought: subject and object, self and other, culture and nature, synthetic and natural, the colonizer and the indigenous, the literal and the …

  • Enhancement of Creative Expression and Entoptic Phenomena as After-Effects of Repeated Ayahuasca Ceremonies

Ede Frecska, Csaba E Móré et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•2012

Studying the effect of psychedelic substances on expression of creativity is a challenging problem. Our primary objective was to study the psychometric measures of creativity after a series of ayahuasca ceremonies at a time when the acute effects have subsided. The secondary objective was to investigate how entoptic phenomena emerge during expression of creativity. Forty individuals who were self-motivated participants of ayahuasca rituals in Bra…

  • EEG Gamma Coherence and Other Correlates of Subjective Reports During Ayahuasca Experiences

David E Stuckey, Robert Lawson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•2005

The current study examined QEEG power and coherence of ayahuasca experiences with two experienced participants in a Brazilian jungle setting. An exploratory case series design was adopted for naturalistic field research. EEGs recorded during visual imagery was compared to eyes-closed baselines. The most important findings were increases in global EEG coherence in the 36-44 Hz and 50-64 Hz frequency bands for both subjects. Widely distributed cort…

  • Effects of the Amazonian Psychoactive Beverage Ayahuasca on Binocular Rivalry: Interhemispheric Switching or Interhemispheric Fusion

Ede Frecska, Keith D White et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•2003

An early theoretical analysis supposed changes in hemispheric integration as the basis of altered state of consciousness induced by psychoactive drugs. Brain imaging studies revealed right cortical activation after administration of hallucinogens. Recent studies on binocular rivalry suggest that interhemispheric switching is the neural substrate of the perceptual oscillations observed during dichoptic stimulus presentation. The current study test…
