  • Population and age structure in Hungary: A residential preference and age dependency approach to disaggregate census data

    Open Access•Sen Li, Linda Juhász-Horváth et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

We present a simple model to disaggregate age structured population census data to a 1-km grid for Hungary. A dasymetric approach was used to predict the spatial distribution of population in different age groups by distinguishing residential preferences (in relation to accessible social, economic and green amenities) for working age groups (15–29, 30–49 and 50–64) and population dependencies for children and the elderly (aged 0–14 and 65+). • Understanding the relationships between ecosystem services and poverty alleviation: A conceptual framework

    Open Access•Janet Fisher, Janet A Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•Ecosystem Services•2014

As interest grows in the contribution of ecosystem services to poverty alleviation, we present a new conceptual framework, synthesizing insights from existing frameworks in social–ecological systems science and international development. People have differentiated abilities to benefit from ecosystem services, and the framework places emphasis on access to services, which may constrain the poorest more than aggregate availability. Distinctions are…

  • A spatially explicit scenario-driven model of adaptive capacity to global change in Europe

  • Strengthening conceptual foundations: Analysing frameworks for ecosystem services and poverty alleviation research

    Open Access•Janet Fisher, Janet A Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•Global Environmental Change•2013•Cited by: 19•References: 28

A research agenda is currently developing around the linkages between ecosystem services and poverty alleviation. It is therefore timely to consider which conceptual frameworks can best support research at this nexus. Our review of frameworks synthesises existing research on poverty/environment linkages that should not be overlooked with the adoption of the topical language of ecosystem services. A total of nine conceptual frameworks were selecte…

  • A need for planned adaptation to climate change in the wine industry

Open Access•Marc J Meztger, Mark Rounsevell et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2011

The diversity of wine production depends on subtle differences in microclimate and is therefore especially sensitive to climate change. A warmer climate will impact directly on wine-grapes through over-ripening, drying out, rising acidity levels, and greater vulnerability to pests and disease, resulting in changes in wine quality (e.g. complexity, balance and structure) or potentially the style of wine that can be produced. The growing scientific…
