  • Daily correlates to social distancing in U.S. young adults in 2021

    Beatrice L Stevenson, Brittany L Stevenson et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology & Health•2025

772 young adults who had reported alcohol use in 12th grade. Participants completed up to 14 daily assessments in Spring 2021. We measured social distancing related to the COVID-19 pandemic and daily mood, loneliness, substance use, and illness symptoms. Around a third of the sample reported social distancing on all days, and a third reported no social distancing. Young adults tended to adhere to a consistent level of social distancing. Those who…

  • The daily association between affect and alcohol use

    Open Access•Jonas Dora, Marilyn Piccirillo et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•2023•Cited by: 6•References: 5

Influential psychological theories hypothesize that people consume alcohol in response to the experience of both negative and positive emotions. Despite two decades of daily diary and ecological momentary assessment research, it remains unclear whether people consume more alcohol on days they experience higher negative and positive affect in everyday life. In this preregistered meta-analysis, we synthesized the evidence for these daily associatio…

  • Real-time changes in emotion regulation and loss of control eating

    Open Access•Beatrice L Stevenson, Dexter Wilborn et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 25

Difficulties in emotion regulation are an important theoretical construct implicated in the maintenance of loss of control eating. In this study, 45 community and college participants who reported loss of control eating at least once per week carried tablets for 2 weeks, responding to random assessments throughout each day. We compared trajectories of emotion regulation abilities before and after loss of control eating episodes (using average los…

  • The Polls-Review

John T Alexander, Michael Davern et al.•ARTICLE•Public Opinion Quarterly•2010•Cited by: 4

We discover and document errors in public-use microdata samples ("PUMS files") of the 2000 Census, the 2003-2006 American Community Survey, and the 2004-2009 Current Population Survey. For women and men age 65 and older, age- and sex-specific population estimates generated from the PUMS files differ by as much as 15 percent from counts in published data tables. Moreover, an analysis of labor-force participation and marriage rates suggests the PUM…
