    The cumulative effect of stressful life events on 40 children in the 4th to 6th grades who were in matched pairs from intact and divorced families were investigated. Children's adjustment was assessed by parent report, teacher report and fantasy material from an abbreviated Thematic Apperception Test.     Results of 30-month and four-year follow-ups of a six-month preventive program for people recently separated were even more favorable than the positive follow-ups at six and 18 months.
