Effectiveness of XR‐Based Exposure Therapy for Phobic Disorders
Research on anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) indicates that virtual reality and related technologies are effective tools for therapy. Given the similar underlying mechanism of these disorders to phobias, it is thought by researchers in mental health care that VR‐based exposure therapies would have similar treatment outcomes. The purpose of this research is to examine the effectiveness of XR‐based exposure therapy using physiologic…

Fertility and the environment in a natural resource dependent economy: Evidence from Petén, Guatemala
This paper examines potential relations between factors related to fertility and the access to and use of natural resources in Petn, Guatemala. The Petn forms the heart of the Selva Maya, the largest lowland humid forest in Mesoamerica. The rapid in-migration of subsistence maize farmers has converted much of the Petn's forests to agricultural fields. Population dynamics have been transformed in that virtually all farm families have arrived since…
What Happens to Contraceptive Use After Injectables Are Introduced? An Analysis of 13 Countries
CONTEXT: Although the introduction of a new method is generally hailed as a boon to contraceptive prevalence, uptake of new methods can reduce the use of existing methods. It is important to examine changing patterns of contraceptive use and method mix after the introduction of new methods. METHODS: Demographic and Health Survey data from 13 countries were used to analyze changes in method use and method mix after the introduction of the injectab…
Sexual and physical violence against female sex workers in Kenya: A qualitative enquiry
Few studies in Africa provide detailed descriptions of the vulnerabilities of female sex workers (FSW) to sexual and physical violence, and how this impacts on their HIV risk. This qualitative study documents FSW's experiences of violence in Mombasa and Naivasha, Kenya. Eighty-one FSW who obtained clients from the streets, transportation depots, taverns, discos and residential areas were recruited through local sex workers trained as peer counsel…
