Patients in psychoanalysis
The paper reports on findings related to the sex and religious backgrounds of 144 patients in psychoanalytic treatment between September 1, 1962, and August 31, 1963. The data, obtained from questionnaires completed by 30 analysts in the Baltimore area, indicate significant differences between the sexes and among religious groups in a number of areas related to diagnosis and symptomatology
Verbal Productivity as a Measure of Change in Affective Status
A measure of change in depression, based on the construct of energy output, was used to differentiate two depressed groups, one which improved and one which was unimproved. Improvement was defined by change in MMPI Depression Scale score. Verbal productivity was chosen as an operational measure of energy output. To study a method of measurement of adjustive devices by means of verbal behavior, two normal groups, one of adult males and one of adult females, were compared.
