Mémoires de jeunes filles (dé)rangées, Genève, 1900-2000. Quand la recherche historique s’expose
This article presents an historical exhibition on the contemporary metamorphoses of child protection, examined from a gender perspective. Based on data collected during an NRP 76 research project Welfare and Coercion, our exhibition tackles the mechanisms of invisibilisation and exclusion that specifically affected young girls in care during the 20th century (gendered representations and differential treatment). The article explains how the exhib…

From Child Rescue to Child Welfare
From Child Rescue to Child Welfare: The Save the Children International Union Facing World Warfare (1939–1947) The SCIU was created in 1919 to assist children victims of war. As the first organisation dedicated to childhood, this agency is an already well known case-study for the historians of international humanitarian aid. Yet its later evolution is much less studied, even though the SCIU persisted until the 1980s. This article shows to what ex…

The present article examines in transnational perspective the emergence of child protection reform networks during the first quarter of the twentieth-century and their role in the creation of the League of Nations’ Children’s Protection Committee (1925). By insisting, not only on the continuities linking this organization to the reform networks that preceded it, but also on the competition to which it gave rise among rival networks, one may under…
Acid reaction products of indole-3-carbinol and their effects on cytochrome P450 and phase II enzymes in rat and monkey hepatocytes
The effects of three acid condensation products of indole-3-carbinol (I3C), i.e. 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM), 5,6,11,12,17,18-hexahydrocyclonona[1,2-b:4,5-b':7,8-b"]tri-indole (CTI) and 2,3-bis[3-indolylmethyl]indole (BII), on cytochrome P450 and phase II enzymes were studied in primary cultures of rat and cynomolgus monkey liver cells. In rat hepatocytes all three indole derivatives dose-relatedly induced the ethoxyresorufin O-dealkylation (EROD…
