A Comprehensive Mapping of Intergenerational Caregiving
Families remain central to later‐life support, yet evidence on intergenerational caregiving is fragmented across dyads, generations, and cultural contexts. This scoping review maps how caregiving is organized and negotiated across structural, associational, affectual, functional, consensual, and normative dimensions. Following PRISMA‐ScR and Arksey and O’Malley's framework, seven databases and Google Scholar were searched. Eligible studies report…
Exploring the implementation and theory of a school-based diet and active lifestyle intervention among primary school children
Background: Guided by Kincaid's ideation metatheory, the Promoting hEalthy Diet and Active Lifestyle (PEDAL), a school-based intervention, was developed. The central tenets of ideation consist of three psychosocial domains (cognitive, emotional, and social) that are assumed to influence behavior cumulatively. This study explored the implementation of two components of PEDAL and how ideation factors influenced diet and active lifestyle behaviors. …
Defining Health Movements and Health Needs Across the Life Course
BACKGROUND: In an effort to improve population health, communities are being enabled to take charge of their health through the Movements for Health (M4H) programme in Singapore. The present study seeks to understand what characterises a health movement and explores health narratives which resonate over the different life stages. METHODS: A multi-component qualitative formative study was undertaken. Focus group discussions (FGDs, n = 12) and one …

Evaluating the Effects of Capacity Building Initiatives and Primary Care Networks in Singapore
The high tertiary healthcare utilisation in Singapore due to an ageing population and increasing chronic disease load has resulted in the establishment of primary care networks (PCNs) for private general practitioners (GPs) to provide team-based, community care for chronic diseases. A total of 22 PCN leaders and programme managers from 10 PCNs participated in online group discussions and a survey. Outcome harvesting was used to retrospectively li…
Well, I Signed Up to Be a Soldier; I Have Been Trained and Equipped Well”
(1) Background: As COVID-19 transmission continues despite vaccination programs, healthcare workers (HCWs) face an ongoing pandemic response. We explore the effects of this on (1) Heartware, by which we refer to morale and commitment of HCWs; and identify how to improve (2) Hardware, or ways of enabling operational safety and functioning. (2) Methods: Qualitative e-diary entries were shared by HCWs during the early phases of the outbreak in Singa…
Exploring theory-based behavioral interventions promoting Covid-19 prevention and healthcare-seeking for migrant worker men in Singapore
Overall, the findings showed that the conception of the Four Ss helped inform intervention strategies. Anchoring these towards optimal use of technology and harnessing of interpersonal communication for prevention and promotion of healthcare seeking in the planning of future Infectious Disease outbreaks in closed institutional settings is recommended
Interacting with place and mapping community needs to context
Geospatial-qualitative methods, which combine both observation and interpretative accounts during data collection through extended exposure and movement in place, have been increasingly used to explore "person-place" interactions and assess communities of place. Despite their increased use, there is a lack of reflexive discussion on how they differ in capturing person-place interactions and ways to combine them. Drawing on our experiences using t…
Promoting BioPsychoSocial health of older adults using a Community for Successful Ageing program (ComSA) in Singapore
Gender-Based Violence in Senegal
Explaining the continuum of social participation among older adults in Singapore
To promote inclusiveness, ageing programs should address preferences for social participation, overcoming barriers at the individual, ethnic culture and policy level
Patients' and clinicians' views of comparing the performance of providers of surgery
OBJECTIVES: Comparison of providers' outcomes is intended to encourage patient choice and stimulate clinicians to improve the quality of their services. Given that success will depend on how patients and clinicians respond, our aim was to explore their views of using outcome data to compare providers. METHOD: Qualitative data from six focus groups with patients (n = 45) and seven meetings with surgical clinicians (n = 107) were collected during a…
Understanding adversity and resilience at older ages
This mixed-methods study looks at the relationship between adversity and resilience. It examines the dynamics of protection in a sub-sample of the Boyd Orr cohort that are aged between 70 and 80 years of age (n = 139). We used a questionnaire and activity diaries to gather a range of quantitative data, and interviews using lifegrids to explore past and present experiences of adversity. Sampling of 32 individuals was based on resilient and vulnera…
Does financial disadvantage at older ages eliminate the potential for better health
OBJECTIVE: Taller adult stature reflects early life advantages and is an indicator of improved economic and health outcomes, and thus the potential for better health, including reduced depression risk. As inadequate retirement pension provision is an increasing concern, we investigated whether health potential (indicated by height) was realised among those experiencing financial disadvantage in later life. DESIGN, SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: Cross-…
