  • A reflection on the translation of sex-related language in audio-visual texts

    José Santaemilia•ARTICLE•Perspectives•2018

Studies on the way sex-related language has been approached in audio-visual translation are still rather limited. This article documents the range of solutions given in Spanish to the sex-related language present in the British TV series The Casual Vacancy (2015), based on the novel of the same title by J.K. Rowling. In order to do so I will cursorily follow the sex-related items on their way from the original novel (The Casual Vacancy, 2012) to …

  • The linguistic representation of gender violence in (written) media discourse

José Santaemilia, Sergio Maruenda et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Language Aggression…•2014

In this paper my primary aim is to analyse how international gender-equalit…

  • Gender, sex, and language in Valencia

    José Santaemilia•ARTICLE•International Journal of the…•2008•References: 3

This article includes two parts: the first part is a review of the work which is being done in Valencia in the field of gender, sex(uality), and language. The land of Valencia (the old “Kingdom of Valencia”), once an independent political entity, is now part of today's constitutional Spain, and its history is a dynamic mixture of religious, cultural, and political traditions. In Valencia two languages and cultures coexist: Spanish (as the dominan…
