    This article explores how gentrification impacts the Malcolm X Park drum circle in northwest Washington, DC. Since the early 1990s, the drum circle has frequently been the object of noise complaints levied by white and upper-class residents who have moved to the neighborhoods surrounding the park. In the early 2000s, the National Park Service felt compelled to censure the circle and force it to move locations. Similar issues arose again in 2011. …
