  • Using the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation in research: Estimating the effect of excluding domains on a routine health data study

    To avoid biased estimates, researchers using WIMD in studies on health, education, housing, physical environment, income, employment, community safety, and access to services should consider how these domains are related to their outcomes. We describe a methodology for researchers to quantify any bias in their own studies

    For over 3 million years hominins held stone-cutting tools in the hand, gripping the portion of tool displaying a sharp cutting edge directly. During the late Middle Pleistocene human populations started to produce hafted composite knives, where the stone element displaying a sharp cutting edge was secured in a handle.     This paper examines the growth of peasant/farmer cooperatives in the German state of Bavaria in the years circa 1880–1914. The remarkable increase in the number of cooperative ventures in rural Germany, seen most clearly in the proliferation of credit cooperatives ( Raiffeisenvereine ), has attracted scant attention from historians.
