  • Contrasting paired benthic and planktonic foraminifera radiocarbon ages from Bermuda Rise ODP Site 1063 during Heinrich Stadials 1 and 2

Open Access•Jörg Lippold, Jens Fohlmeister et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•References: 33

We report 27 planktonic and 21 benthic radiocarbon ages from the subtropical marine sediment core ODP Site 1063 (Bermuda Rise) for the time range between 30 and 14 ka before present. Despite low abundances of benthic specimens, it was possible to measure radiocarbon ages down to ∼10 μg carbon using a MICADAS and the gas ion source developed at ETH Zurich. Based on a tentative radiocarbon–independent age-model we found that the radiocarbon reservo…

  • The Ernesto Cave, northern Italy, as a candidate auxiliary reference section for the definition of the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Andrea Borsato, Ian J Fairchild et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 40

Annually laminated stalagmites ER77 and ER78 from Grotta di Ernesto provide an accurate annual record of environmental and anthropogenic signals for the last ~200 years. Two major transitions are recorded in the stalagmites. The first coincides with the year 1840 CE, when a change from porous and impurity-rich-laminae to clean, translucent laminae occurs. This is accompanied by a steady increase in the growth rate, a decrease in fluorescence and …

  • Radiocarbon Dating of a Speleothem Record of Paleoclimate for Angkor, Cambodia

Open Access•Quan Hua, Duncan Cook et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2017•Cited by: 6•References: 54

We report the chronological construction for the top portion of a speleothem, PC1, from southern Cambodia with the aim of reconstructing a continuous high-resolution climate record covering the fluorescence and decline of the medieval Khmer kingdom and its capital at Angkor (~9th–15th centuries AD). Earlier attempts to date PC1 by the standard U-Th method proved unsuccessful. We have therefore dated this speleothem using radiocarbon. Fifty carbon…

  • Correlation of climate signals in dated archives

    Open Access•Jens Fohlmeister•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • Comnispa Ii

    Open Access•Jens Fohlmeister, Nicole Vollweiler et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2012•Cited by: 3•References: 4

We present an update (COMNISPA II) of a precisely dated, high-resolution speleothem δ 18 O record from the Austrian Alps. COMNISPA II consists of five stalagmites from Spannagel Cave, which have comparable δ 18 O values within periods of simultaneous growth and show similar δ 18 O variations on centennial to millennial timescales. This allows combining the five stalagmites to one composite record using a newly developed statistical approach. The …
